This version of the Starbucks app comes bearing a few gifts — for starters, you’ll find a new receipt icon on the Home tab for easy, one-tap access to your transaction history and tipping opportunities. You may find some fun new Offer types, too. We’ve made it a lot clearer if your credit or debit card is expired. And we’ve infused a little extra good cheer for good measure. Happy holidays!

From sunup to sundown, millions of caffeine-craving people descend on Starbucks to get their daily cup. We’ve had Starbucks’ super-handy app on our phones for ages, and it’s staying right there. We love using the Mobile Order & Pay feature in the app to customize our beverage before even setting foot inside the store.
What I really love about the Starbie’s app is 1) you can leave a tip through the app (which you cannot cannot do with a debit card, and therefore to use a debit card to pay you have to have a side hobby of saving quarters to tip baristas with); and 2) touchless payment. Free coffee now and then from redeeming stars doesn’t hurt either! Related to the tip, here is something I figured out about redeeming stars: if you pay for one transaction all with stars, then there is no way to tip the barista through the app. That’s no fair to the barista! So I usually save my stars until I'm also getting coffee for a friend or two, and pay for all but one drink with stars, and pay $ through the app for the one drink. Then I can still leave a tip through the app to cover all the drinks. Yay! If I dont have friends to share coffee with on any given day, I can always just buy a coffee for the person behind me and thereby still be able to tip through the app. It’s fun!!
Personal note: I’m 20+ years sober and can’t have carbs anymore due to diabetes. Thank goodness for espresso with stevia and cream!!! It’s a party I can still enjoy!!! “🎵Life’s simple pleasures are the best! All the little things that make you smile and glow🎵”
App update lost some helpful features
The mobile app is so useful, however, the last update seemed to have gotten rid of some features I found helpful. For one, I don’t like that now when you go Into the history, it no longer shows the date and time of your purchase, so if you need to take a screenshot of your “receipt” it does not include the complete purchase info, which renders it less useful. It shows a receipt number, which is not useful to me, and it is inconvenient to have to screenshot both the history list AND the purchase itself. Why did you get rid of this? Why fix what wasn’t broken? Also, you have removed the date info for the Starbucks cards. It was helpful to have the info on the start dates of my cards to differentiate the cards, especially the similar ones. It used to have that info before. It also is frustrating when the app does not let you choose the store you want and sometimes suggests some faraway store. It would be helpful if it also told you reasons why you are unable to use the app - ie, store shut off mobile orders, store is closing, etc. Otherwise, you think it’s your phone or app and you waste a lot of time. I also would like that the app kept the history details for the “free” items, because just because it’s free, doesn’t mean you don’t want to record WHAT you had. But, for the most part, I like using the app.
