Start Rowing without any previous experience needed. Get in shape, build strength and burn calories. Our rowing app's workout plans will train you for the next stage in your rowing journey.

Never rowed before? Start with our beginner plan. In 8 weeks you’ll be comfortable rowing 2000 meters with correct technique.

Experienced erger? Use our intermediate and advanced plans to improve your overall fitness while increasing your rowing capacity.

Start Rowing will guide you step by step, letting you know when to change rowing intensity and when to rest. Each plan is designed to slowly become more challenging so your body can adapt and gain endurance while minimising any risk of injury.

Spend just 10-30 minutes a day, 2-5 days a week. You’ll be fitter, stronger and a much better rower!

If you upgrade to a premium Start Rowing subscription, payment will be charged to your iTunes account at confirmation of purchase. Your subscription renews automatically unless cancelled at least 24 hours prior to the end of the current period. There is no increase in cost when renewing.

Subscriptions can be managed and auto-renewal turned off in Account Settings in iTunes after purchase. Once purchased, the current period cannot be cancelled. Any unused portion of a free trial period is forfeited if you choose to purchase a premium subscription.

I've improved the metronome so that the SPM (Strokes per minute) no longer changes mid-stroke. Instead, it will wait until a new drive has begun to change speed. This should make your training much smoother and more consistent.

Developer is Awesome

I first left a 3star review detailing the missing features that would make this app worthwhile. Within a few weeks, the dev had actually listened and incorporate a free-row and a custom workout module where you can design your own.

It’s truly incredible that the dev actually takes user feedback into consideration and also incorporates it so quickly.

The app is perfect now and is honestly worth every penny.

- I'm currently working on Custom Workouts, where you will be able to set your own SPM and durations. Free-Row is a great idea and something I will look into.

- I appreciate the feedback on rates changing mid-workout. It's something I am aware of and want to improve on.

- I do understand the frustration with auto-renewal. It's the default behaviour with subscriptions through Apple and you can cancel it at any time but I do clearly need to make this more obvious, so I can only apologise for the inconvenience.

Good rowing app!

I’ve been using this app for a week, but I’d really like a little more functionality from it. Would be great to record my avg split time after each workout so I can track my progress rather than just meters rowed alone. I’d also like to be able to turn up the volume metronome/countdown person outside of my music. I can hardly hear the announcements over my music, and I can’t hear a metronome at all. Ive been using the visual metronome, which is great, but would be nice to hear it so I don’t have to keep looking down at my phone.
Overall, so far I think it’s a great app and I am enjoying the progression of my endurance/weight loss program. I’d just like to record more data in the app, please! Thank you!

Enjoying So Far

This doesn’t have a ton of bells and whistles, which is fine with me. I am an intermediate rower at best and found myself out of gas and unmotivated with other programs. This one started on the easier side and is letting me build up endurance at a good pace that doesn’t deter me from getting on the rower 5 days a week. The only con so far is the stroke rate changes are a little clunky. I’d prefer to finish a full stroke and then speed up or slow down as needed, not change mid-way and have to start over.
