The Startel Secure Messaging Plus application is a safe and effective way to send and receive HIPAA compliant text messages.

The user interface is horrible. The alert tones are about 15 years old, and you cannot use your own device tones. Tones are too quiet. Very sloppy in the way it is set up to respond to an answering service message. If the initial message is not first highlighted then a reply is sent as a separate message without the answering service knowing which prior message or page it is in response to.
No way to confirm a message to the service was received.
Our office answering service uses this messaging app to send a “page” to the on-call provider. This app alone is reason enough to get a different answering service.
This seems like a “thrown together” effort by someone who did not speak with actual users for input or feedback for development.
One star is way more than generous. You can’t keep this app from notifying you every 2 minutes for messages that are 2 months old. Even though I keep marking them as received and deleting them. I gave them multiple tries to fix it over the past 3 weeks. I bet I reinstalled it 12 times. I am now done with this app. I think somebody’s kid wrote it one night and their dad thought he could sell it to some unsuspecting company and make a lot of money. I would be humiliated if I represented this company.
I've never used an app so glitchy and annoying, I'm surprised anyone will use this service. It doesn't always work as it should, resending messages even after deleted. How "deleted" can they be? This is used for secure, HIPPA compliant data. I'm not sure this company understands that they must get it right... The first time. Over the past week I can't begin to describe all the glitches and errors and false notifications I received. VERY AGGRAVATING!
