Checking in with Dad

*Update June 2019* we love the recent changes to the app. I use it mostly to track my own activity, but we also use the “friend” feature to check in with family. Our father, who is aging and lives alone, told us his only worry about being alone was that no one would know he was dead until weeks, or months later. Kind of morbid, but it’s a real concern. This app has been great for checking in without being intrusive to his autonomy. It’s been a great app for that, as long as we all carry our phones 24/7. There have been a few times I’ve called after seeing no activity. Usually he forgot to turn his phone on, but once, he was actually really ill and needed assistance. 5 stars for that!
I purchased the “pro” version early on. I like the added features and lack of annoying ads. The price seemed fair at the time (can’t remember what I paid for it tbh).

$144/per yr user fee is a deal breaker

I’d given this app a 5 based on my experience using it mid 2018; however I stopped using the app for a couple of months. I received an error message indicating poor internet connection when I attempted to use it a few minutes ago. I deleted the app and redownloaded it from the Apple Store app. After going through all of the setup prompts, a screen pops up asking if I was to continue for $3 per week or opt with the free trial enabled. I selected the free trial option but it appears I have to select the “continue $2.99/per week to go to the screen. If this is the case, consider removing the ‘free trial enabled’ option. I understand there are fees associated with testing and improving the app, not to mention your time, but six months of using this app would cost $72. Neat app but I cannot justify this expense when I could use the money to purchase a step counter, instead.

Update: I appreciate the response and invitation to each reviewer to contact you to clarify our concerns but my review was straightforward. Again, great app just not for $2.99 per week. For comparison, this app cost more per month than my gym membership at Planet Fitness.

I liked it until the last update

I downloaded this app during the summer and checked it every day through fall and winter. Overall, i find it really encouraging to know that i walked 4 or 5 miles on days when i haven’t taken time to “work out” but I’ve been busy/on my feet throughout the day. Having the data also gives me an incentive to walk at least as much as I did on other days within the last week.
But I just deleted the app last night because the last update screwed up my data. On Friday I had more than 10K steps, and on Saturday I barely had any because my phone battery was dead most of the day. after the update it showed Wednesday as having more than 12K steps but barely any for Thursday Friday or Saturday, like the one really low day was stretched out to three. I’m also skeptical about the accuracy because there have been times that i was sitting on the bus or subway for a while, and the step counter went up before I stood up. I’m not sure if I’ll download the same app to see if that fixes it or just try a different app.
