Ratings and Reviews
Powerful
This is a great app with a powerful chess engine.
Two things I'd like to see is the ability to setup custom positions, which is available on the iOS versions fo this app. And when viewing PGN's with vairations, it would be nice to have a UI to choose which variation is next. Currently you have to select the variation in the PGN text field.
Flawed.
This app is missing two crucial features. First, there should be a “setup position” option in case you want to analyze a game but dont have the FEN or PGN readily available. Second and more important, there should be an option to stop the analysis after a fixed time - the fact that I have to press go and stop after each move (to avoid arbitrarily long and unnecessary analysis, draining battery and CPU power) is very annoying. It seems logical and simple to have an option where the analysis stops after 10 seconds (or any given time) each move. This app would easily be five stars with those additions.
It's a great engine with a crappy front-end.
Unlike the iPad version, you can't even play against it. Ugh. A minimalist UI isn't a problem in and of itself, but even the functionality that's here is super awkward. It doesn't even show you captured peices. I mean, could you have done even less to make this worthwhile? Probably, but sheese.
I can download the engine and a number of other front-ends, but I was hoping for a one click install for a program that did the trick. This doesn't do any tricks except calculate well.
