The Greatest Two Player Board Game of All Time, now in an app
I could wax poetically about this game for hours, but I will try to keep it brief. I have played a lot of board games, and a lot of 2 player board games, and nothing compares to the dynamism and feeling of playing summoner wars. Each faction is so unique and thematic, creating awesome synergies you discover as you play. Matching up against other factions, each of which is very well balanced against each other, provides a different type of challenge every game. You could play this 1000 times and every game feels like a new experience where you learn something and grow as a player. I know this because I have played this over 1000 times and every game feels so different and exciting. Positioning your units and summoner in the right places is difficult to master, but so rewarding when pulled off well.
I cannot recommend this enough to someone who wants a competitive, extremely tactical, thematic, and explosive game.
my favorite board game ever, in pocket-sized form
Longtime Summoner Wars player and app beta tester here. Sommoner Wars Second Edition is an amazing two-person tactical board game with amazing art but don't take my word for it, read reviews on BoardGameGeek or watch Shut Up and Sit Down's video review.
Online play has always been integral to the Summoner Wars experience, and a tight and inclusive international Discord community has formed around it. Until recently, online play was done through the mobile-friendly Plaid Hat Games website. Now for the first time, all that gameplay goodness is available as a smartphone app. Go on, give it a try, and join the community! You won't be disappointed.
Summoner Wars finally done right
I think this is about the third iteration of this game (physical game included) and plaidhat hit it out of the park this time. Streamlined rules, fairly fast ai turn time, and a great value in subscription mode for $2.99 monthly or you can buy individual decks for $3.99 each. I am having a blast playing this nonstop. Joining a private game is…unintuitive. You actually get transferred to the sw website, have to log in, then copy web address into ios app. It’s really clunky and I sincerely hope this will improve. Great job plaidhat!!
