It’s a kind of Magic

Initially I didn’t think it really did much, but as I started going through my contacts I realized it had updated a number of them with information on their current job and contact details. This is something I’ve struggled to keep up with the old fashioned way. I can also see the contact sharing functionality coming in handy when in person networking comes back. Sure it’s a little rough around the edges but all in all it’s a little thing that shows a lot of promise. Keep it up!

Hi Trevozneoma,
We glad you like Sunshine! We want to make keeping updated contacts easy and hassle free. We also love our share features and we can't wait for you to try them more (once we can get back to in person networking!). Thank you for using Sunshine!

Interesting but buggy and naive

Sunshine Contacts will scan your contacts and make changes using publicly available information and some kind of voodoo. It correctly guessed the middle names of a couple people, and gave middle names to people I wasn't sure if it was right about or not (such as my boss — why do I need this??). It got pictures for a few people I didn't have pictures for. However, it also changed a friend's information to match that of a guy in another state who just happens to have the same name. It even put this other guy's picture up and there's no option to remove it. Because this other guy is a (more?) public figure, Sunshine has decided he gets a monopoly on that name, and anyone who uses it will get that set of information. It makes the rest of the app completely suspect, especially since there's no way to undo the match. Also, I'd like to get my Gmail contacts in the app as well, but doesn't seem to support that on iOS just yet.

Hi N. Jolly,
Thank you for your feedback, and we appreciate you taking the time to share it! We are working on improving our logic everyday, and our user's experience, including the ability to delete incorrect information!
You can add your GMail contacts to Sunshine! Go to Add a contact, and then tap Add an account at the top of that screen, and you can add as many GMail accounts as you'd like!
Thank you for using Sunshine,

“Needs a lot of work” is an understatement

I was really excited about the idea of this app so that’s why I signed up. I ended up deleting it recently and removing all of my data because it just did not operate the way I had hoped. Some of the primary problems were that it kept merging contacts that I did not want it to merge and it would rename contacts that I did not want it to rename. For instance, I had a contact set up as “mom“ and it changed the contact to my mom’s name. Not a big deal but I set my mom‘s contact card up for that specific reason. My dad‘s name has the same name as one of my friends and so I called him “dad“ but it merged his card with my friends card. I submitted a support case with the company and long story short with that is nothing happened. Somebody from the company reached out to me acknowledging that they received my ticket and then they shortly close the ticket soon after but the problem was never resolved. Still have a lot of bugs to work out.

Developer Response ,

Hi coryval,
Thank you for your feedback on Sunshine Contacts, and where we can improve. We appreciate you taking the time to share, since user feedback like this is what guides our improvements. We are currently working on improving our handling of merges and names, including automatically unmerging cards when a bad merge is reported, and not changing names on contacts in iOS (both features are in our current version of the app!). We apologize your case was closed without resolution. We are reviewing the case to make sure we handle those cases better in the future.
