Great app, but there is more data on the site

I read these reviews and was hesitant to get the watch, but rest assured, the app isn’t that bad and the watch is GREAT. In fact it is the only watch with an accurate wrist heart rate sensor. The Garmin watches are awful. I use the spartan trainer and love it. So for this app, it actually is a very good quality app in terms of look, feel, and seamless function. If you are hesitant because of the app and it’s rating, don’t be. It works really well for its main task, which is syncing and updating the watch. For firmware you still need the cord, as for charging, but that’s it. For syncing it’s just fire up the app with your watch on and you're done. If you want advanced stats, head to the website on your device or laptop. The Movescount community is great. Heat maps are awesome, routing is sweet, and the stats are also great. And since this is a review for this app, I give it 4 stars. The watches are 5 star. Enjoy.

Good for what it does

This app is for athletes. Just skip the diver's reviews. I'm using this Ambit3 Peak and that monitor wouldn't be the instrument it is without this app. The ability to customize and tweak the settings is invaluable. There's a lot there and I'm sure I'm not using it all. The record function could better. It lacks the sophistication the setup side has. There is a whole volume of work Suunto has from its old "couch" function that could be included. It's fine that I can see what I've done, but how do I get better? Also a help function would be helpful. Performance difference and EPOC are nice to know but what do I do with them? I shouldn't have to have a degree in athletic sciences to use the watch or app. That should be built in.

Suunto vs Garmin

Had a Suunto Ambit for years and it still works great, but wanted to update. I bought a Garmin Fenix 5 because I found it for a great price. It locked up after the first day. I then decided to get the Suunto 9 for a little bit more money. In the first hour I was able to see that I was a far superior watch. It has a sapphire glass without an up charge, has touchscreen which the Fenix series does not, better interface and easier to navigate menus and functions. The Suunto is also more comfortable and better looking. It seems to me that the Suunto was developed by fitness enthusiast and engineers while the Garmins are driven by their marketing department to appeal to a broader audience. If you want real functionality and a less gimmicky watch, choose the Suunto 9 over the Garmin Fenix 5.
