SWconnect allows user to connect and track their travels on the SpotWalla website: https://spotwalla.com. Spotwalla is a secure location manager, which support several different devices for keep track of location during travels. It is routinely used by long distance motorcycle riders, boaters and even RV owners.
SWconnect allow you to connect with your account on Spotwalla, and tracks your progress on a timed basis. IOS users previously were able to use the Latitude app to share their location with SpotWalla, however, that application was removed in August, 2013.
SWconnect is intended to run in the background. General use once logged in, is to simply enable tracking, put the app in the background, put your phone in your pocket and ride. Your points will be stored with the device information on SpotWalla, and you can create custom trips which show your location over a specified time period.
BATTERY USAGE INFO:
SWconnect uses GPS information, and as such battery use will be similar to most navigation type of applications.
Continued use of GPS running in the background can dramatically decrease battery life.
SWconnect uses the battery saving mode of "deferred locations" for owners of iPhone5 or newer when the application is running in the background, however it is always suggested to use external power when possible, or to turn off tracking during periods when you are not moving.

Does everything it says it does and nothing more. No issues for me. Doesn't seem to make a huge hit on battery life. In an App Store with lots of questionable apps this one works as advertised. Tracking is great and family can now see where I am on my trip.
SWCONNECT is a great option for trip tracking, I highly recommend for car/motorbike. It's easy on the phone battery for cycling trips, your mileage will vary (pun intended). The learning curve for Spotwalla/SWconnect is a bit steep, but once the base configuration is sorted then it's very user friendly.
Excellent app to track me
Excellent app, say no more. Well actually it's easy to say more. This app is a snap to set up on the iphone, though it does have quite a few setup items that you may have to look for, just follow the instructions and faq from the author's web site.
Really simple to allow my wife to keep track of me when I'm out playing on the motorcycle. If I'm out w/o her I sometimes tend to wander alot further than she expects for one day ride, which then makes it into a two day ride. She's not happy if she misses the longer rides or any at all actually.
But not only for my wife, I can also let friends access the route live or afterwards, in case it's one they may want to ride. The ability to send messages while creating the track, mark stops or interesting locations, and even load pictures via Spotwalla once you get back to a computer is great. It is limited to being within your phone coverage area for live ytansfer but its store and forward feature sends the data after you leave the dead areas. Not as many features as a dedicated Spot tracker but if you're retired like I am and can't afford the dedicated tracker, this does an excellent job of most of what I need.
Did I say I like it? H3ll Yeah
