I really wanted to like this application, but it’s essentially useless. The compose window is not functional. You can’t write a new e-mail or reply to or forward an e-mail. You can’t even close the compose mail window without quitting the app. There have been two updates since I dowloaded and installed sweetmail last week and I was hopeful each time that they would fix this glaring bug. But alas, no.

It’s almost like having Eudora back! But it hasn’t kept up with the times.

Man, oh, man, it’s a joy to see this app’s UI. Being able to have my Inbox and my Sent box open at the same time, in separate windows, where I can see everything at a glance for the first time in more than 10 years feels sooooo good!

I only wish sweetmail were a *modernized* version of this kind of UI, with a Eudora-like search feature, instead of this bare-bones experience that can’t be much more than a novelty reminder of the old days.

But it’s just not going to work for me without threaded conversations (seriously!), or better fonts, or smaller icons (and clearer icons — what on earth is that “reply” button supposed to be?), or more customization (no way to have BCC appear in Compose by default), or tags/topics/labels, or more and better keyboard shortcuts.

Because it’s small, and I would love to have this kind of UI again, I’ll keep the app in hopes of seeing future developments bring it from 1999 up to the present. But it’s got a long way to go, and I’m (mostly) happy with the full-featured, power-user third-party app I found after trying dozens of others.

Good luck to the developers!
