Why Swim Workouts To Go?
Swimming is an excellent form of exercise that can be beneficial to many people throughout their lives. To receive the full health and wellness benefits of swimming, it can be important to train different energy systems in a balanced way.
The Swim Workouts To Go app posts new workouts to its site daily and offers both freestyle and stroke practices (see the Workout Focus section for the days of these workouts.) Written instructions are included under the Terminology page. Feel free to swim freestyle during designated stroke or stroke during freestyle sets if that better suits your training needs.
How Long Are the Workouts?
Depending on the swimmer's ability, the workouts should take between 1 1/4 to 1 1/2 hours. Most workouts average 4000-5000 yards. Where it says between 1-4 rounds, this is the logical place where swimmers with less endurance or less time to spend in the water can limit the practice.
Who writes the workouts?
Swim Workouts To Go is produced by Cambridge Masters Swim Club Head Coach, Abe Rogers, and Harvard Women’s Swimming Head Coach, Stephanie Morawski. Abe, a former Olympic Trials competitor in Triathlon, a collegiate varsity swimmer and a long time masters swimmer and coach, has 20 years of experience training athletes at all levels. Olympic Trials finalists, and Harvard to several Ivy Championships. She collaborates with Abe on season planning and training ideas. Both coaches have a love for the sport and they want to share their workouts to promote swimming as a form of exercise at home or on the road.

Great workouts, bad math
I use this app 3-4 times per week. I really enjoy the workouts (I get a better workout swimming on my own using this app, than going to the local masters workouts), but what frustrates me is the frequent errors in yardage calculations. This is an ongoing problem, I’m noticing. So please, keep up with the good workouts, but CHECK YOUR MATH! Please make sure you are accurate in your yardage.

I love this app, it is a must have for advanced swimmers without access to a coach. Daily workouts are balanced, challenging and fun but also long (4000 to 5000 yards or meters). However, you can adjust distance to meet your needs. The app is simple and easy to use --no bells and whistles here, just workouts to help you get focused and improve your swimming; they include kick and drill sets, a variety of strokes (not just freestyle), rest time between sets, intervals, etc.
I was somewhat hesitant to get it because it was launched in 2012 and since then no new version has been released. However, it works like a charm. A new workout is posted every day --it is actually available the night before for your convenience. I've seen much progress in my swimming and although I feel tired after the workout, I am totally rested by the following day and looking forward to another swimming session. I highly recommend it.
My favorite app
This is a simple app with great workouts. I never get bored and I even do IM day now 😝 My only request is that you make an Apple Watch app so I can look at my watch instead of writing down the workout. That way I don’t have to touch my phone with wet hands or worry about losing the workout I wrote down.
