Ratings and Reviews
(updated) need pro version but it's a valuable tool
They don't make it clear but you need to buy the pro version if you don't want it to read dialogue names. I have noticed with so far just one screenplay what other people said about it crashing, I suspect because of the multiple instances of dual dialogue in that particular screenplay that it couldn't process - it gets everything right except for dual dialogue - and the voices don't sound natural except for Harold as the narrator - I'm guessing his voice got the most developer attention - but even in speaking roles he too doesn't sound very natural. It's okay, though. It gets the job done. You just need to hear words read to you, firstly in a voice different from the one in your head to see how it sounds to someone unfamiliar with the material, and secondly just to get through a read-through of your or even other work faster. Without aid, just reading at my own pace, I can get bored or tired. This way I can follow along. They say the best teaching tool is to read more scripts. Well, this way you can. I'm not giving a full 5 stars because I think the voices could sound a bit more natural. I think Harold as the narrator proves that. Nonetheless it is still a very valuable tool and worth the very little that it costs.

Hi Brandon.
Did you get my message about reading names in Settings? It's a part of the PRO version.

Useful In A Pinch, Glitchy
I had been looking for a decent reader for scripts so I could listen to them while driving or while unable to devote my attention to a script. This was recommended online through a NoFilmSchool article, so I downloaded it and imported the script easy enough.
The Free version worked well enough, but about 5pages in stopped. It told me I had to wait for an ad to finish playing, but there was no ad. I refreshed the app twice, same issue. I decided to pay the $2.99 to try the Pro version, and luckily the free trial was available.
The Pro version worked much better, but still had some issues. Assigned voices wouldn’t always take, so characters would sound like each other until I manually set them a time or two. The script paused multiple times while playing with my screen off, and when I opened the app would reset to up to 20 pages EARLIER in the script.
The app crashed once, and the overall functionality and navigation reminds me more of a pre-iOS 6 app. Not bad at all, very useful in a pinch, but it isn’t going to be my go-to app for everything in the future if I can find something better.
Developer Response ,
Thanks for the honest review JuniorProducer. If you'd like to contact us at tablereaddeveloper@gmail.com then we can work through these glitches/concerns/ issues when you have some time.
Great Tool for Playwrights!
This is an invaluable tool for playwrights. I've used it to get a sense of how my play sounds while I'm still writing it, during the revision process. Of course it's always best to have it read by live actors, but it's not feasible to get something like that together repeatedly, especially in the early drafts.
I can't recommend Tableread enough for use as a revision tool. Well worth the subscription!
