I use a lot of apps to learn Chinese and I’ve found that’s they’ve helped me improve at reading/writing Chinese. But listening and speaking are not what they are excelling at. This app is working towards that goal though so I am excited to progress through the exercises. The listening feature on the app seems arbitrary at times, but I think it might be some kind of machine learning; it’s gotten more consistent since I began using the app upon launch and I expect it to continue to improve thusly.

We have been long time users of the Chineasy program (book, Chineasy app) and was excited to try this Talk version. As like the other materials, the Talk Chineasy app is impressive with its thoughtful design and user friendly interface. Navigation is a breeze for users at any level. The layout and illustrations are visually appealing and enhance the overall learning experience. However, the AI aided teacher video is awkward and disrupt the flow of lessons, pulling the users out of the immersive environment.

Though I do love the app and feel it will help with learning Chinese. I do have some critique about the teacher. I know it is probably impossible but maybe not have the AI teacher. Look so obvious that the teacher is AI. And the only issue I found annoying is that you had to hit the microphone twice before it would recognize that you pronounced the word. I think if that feature gets fixed and maybe fix the AI teacher to not look so AI generated. I could give the app 5 stars.

Very unsettling videos, please get rid of them or animate them. The gestures don’t match what you’re saying at all. You don’t have to do everything with AI just because it’s possible. Sometimes simplicity is better than engineering.
As a fan of the Chineasy reading system, I really appreciate the chance to focus more on grammar and conversation. The videos are helpful. I like that, unlike a program like DL, this is a dedicated app to learning Chinese… I hope that they’re able to integrate these experiences in the future!

This app is making it so much easier for me to learn Chinese in a practical way. Thankful for the creators of this app for making Chinese more accessible to learn. Duolingo could never. (Not with mandarin at least)
