Forgoes basic design principles

Not a fan of the new app design. It forgoes basic principles of design such as clear labeling and logical hierarchies, which makes it unclear how to even navigate to the one function we downloaded the app for: finding climbs and displaying them on the board. Users shouldn’t have to jump through multiple menus to get to the climbs. It’s also strange and mildly annoying to have a bunch of pay-only features vying for your attention on the home page.

On the other hand, there are some smaller details that I love. The “match/no-match” icon next to climbs is so helpful. I also like that logging a climb is simple. The look of the virtual tension board is also quite nice.

Version 2 disappointment

Version 2 has been a been a major disappointment and has made climbing on the board just plain frustrating. Along with major features that were removed without warning (tags/ liked boulders) there are glaring issues with navigating boulders. For example, logging a send or even just checking the info of a Boulder and returning to the list will jump you away from that Boulder context. To change boulders now seems to require two taps with no way to disable this. Filters now just don’t work and are apparently useless. For example, If you filter out sent boulders they still show up in the list. I was excited to see what this update would bring, but the regression in user experience has compelled me to leave my first App Store review. The fact that a premium option for $12 a month exists with the current app quality shocks me. I hope the numerous issues with this app are sorted out soon as tension is my favorite training board.

Redesigned app is garbage

I paid 4000 for a tension board I don’t want to see the majority of the real estate in the app telling me to pay for premium features. I bought this board to climb and train. The old app was ten fold better; the new app is designed to be sleek and make money instead of giving climbers what they want. Not to mention the ample bugs in the new platform (search is broken, climbs reset and switch problems when back and forth when changing search parameters and ticking problems, sorting never works, etc) and the three work battle to have them restore my account on the upgrade. If you want a home gym, save yourself a headache go with a moon board setup. Had this been the default when we set up our home gym I wouldn’t have even considered it. I now have a set of tension board holds for sale.
