TextAloud lets you listen to text on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod Touch. Features include word highlighting and also adjustable display colors, brightness and text size. Another helpful option is Auto-Lock While Speaking, which lets you keep your display turned on while speaking is in progress, then once speaking has completed, the display will work with your normal auto-lock setting. TextAloud registers on your device as an app that can handle text files and it includes integration with Dropbox.

Two excellent US English voices by Acapela (Sharona, a female voice and Ryan, a male voice) are included with TextAloud. More Acapela voices are available through in-app purchase. A total of 92 Acapela voices including 27 different languages are offered.

As TextAloud does include the two voices with the initial app purchase, it is a sizable file (120MB) so we recommend using a WiFi connection for an easier download. is pleased to be offering our new TextAloud App for the iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch devices. Since 2000, we have served hundreds of thousands of satisfied customers who use our TextAloud PC software. Our TextAloud App is a basic reader so it does not yet have many of the features in the TextAloud PC version, but we think you will find it useful and we plan to continue improving it. TextAloud helps many with dyslexia or other reading disabilities improve reading and comprehension. Also business people, students at all levels, writers, lawyers, second language learners, and more find TextAloud to be an essential tool they use daily.

The shop is is good when reading the rules, and the cool thing was after one article is done, it will play the next one. That's always a good idea!
Also, how come you only have 23 voices? Just curious though. Also, I'm not then you should consider doing is adding IVONA Voices in your app, because some of them are really cool. Sometimes I have a reading Santa Claus or just documents that I have created somewhere. The voices to purchase some pretty good, because I found her friend. Hopefully you can have more than two for those who haven't purchased yet.

Great first effort, looking forward to updates.

First let me say that I have used the PC version of TextAloud for many years, and I may be biased by the features it has. I have tried the iOS TextAloud app for a day now and am pleased with it. The seem to have selected the Acapela group voices, and I am fine with that as they have a good selection of different voices to prevent you from getting tired of hearing the same voice all the time.
The only reason I did not give it a 5 star review is that unlike its PC name-sake, the app does not appear to support VXML tags for changing voices within an article. I have not tested all the VXML tags, but the ones I have it just reads as plain text.

I hope that NextUp will concider adding the VXML tags in an update soon.

I've had text aloud on my desktop since 2006 and it was very useful for studying while attending school. The desktop has all of the bells and whistles, and although this app might be missing that it does exactly what I need!!! You copy your text and ask it to take from the clipboard and as soon as you copy the app automatically starts reading and saves that portion of the article. I opened up my goodreader app, and copies a page from a book and as soon as I did it started reading to me. As soon as I was done following along I would go to the next page and copy that and it continues to read all while working in the background. Definitely one of the best and most useful apps in the App Store!!!
