Experience driving pleasure down to tenths of a second and m/s²: "The BMW M Laptimer" is a race track data analysis tool, including automatic calculation of lap times. The app records sensor data directly from your BMW, and uses these values to help you analyse your driving style. This allows you to increase precision and dexterity and, in turn, improve your lap times. You can also record your journeys off the race track, such as road trips with your racing community.

The saved results can be posted as snapshots on all social media platforms. Or for even more personal race comparisons, you can exchange your recordings with friends and then compare them curve-by-curve.

Feature overview:

• Live Information of current recording (live laptiming only available in OS7 from 11/2020 on).

• Drift analysis for vehicles with M Drift Analyzer functionality.

• Record videos with synchronized data overlay using the integrated iPhone camera (not available in every country).

• Post-Drive analysis with laptime table, g-force diagram and individually configurable graphs.

• Import – export functionality to share and compare results.

• Social-Media sharing.

• BMW Connected Drive garage with all your vehicles.

Please note:

The BMW M Laptimer is optimized for 2014 and newer vehicles with the options Navigationsystem Professional (S0609) or Live Cockpit Professional (S06U3) in combination with BMW Connected Drive Services (S06C3/4). It is compatible with iPhone 6s or higher and supports OS7 vehicles from 11/2020 on. While app’s features will work as expected on many 2013 and earlier vehicles, some vehicles or older iPhone generations may be incompatible with certain functions.

Usage of the app is based on the general contractual and usage conditions for BMW ConnectedDrive. For further information on the wide range of services offered by BMW ConnectedDrive and BMW Connected, please also consult our webpages at and Please refer to regarding the compatibility of your smartphone with BMW cars.

A mobile Internet connection is required. This can incur costs (for example due to roaming) in accordance with the contract concluded between the customer and the network operator.

Please observe national requirements and conditions specific to the country you are in. For the aforementioned reasons, BMW is unable to warranty unrestricted compatibility and functionality of your mobile device in combination with the vehicle interface. For vehicles with Navigationsystem Professional (S0609) the application inside the car is displayed in the language configured for the phone.

Can’t get it to load on my iPhone running iOS 15.4.

I wanted to use the app to time my track days at Limerock but wouldn’t load saying “ Something has gone wrong - try again” which I did 6 more times. Still wouldn’t load nor connect to my GoPro - very disappointing BMW.

BMW really hate their customers

I love my F82 M4 and take it on track regularly. Until recently, I’ve been using M Laptimer to keep track of my performance. So I have all my track data in the app (old version). The only problem with the app is that it requires ConnectedDrive subscription. However, I didn’t mind paying $50/year. Yesterday I tried to renew my subscription for another year, but BMW told me that they decided to stop supporting it for “old” cars. Really? My car is 2015, so not that old. Plus you can’t just abandon your customers like this without any advance notification. All the data information I collected with this app is now useless as I cannot export it. Do yourself a favour and use some other lap timer.

The best in-car app companion

This app is good. It could be better if it didn’t stall every other launch, but that’s easy to get around. I wish the break telemetry would show more than on/off. And I wish the export function wasn’t just for sharing with others who have the BMW Laptimer app. For exports, it would be nice if I could export for use with something like Race Render, LitPro, etc.

All that aside, I’m hard pressed to find another car with such a highly featured level of car integration.
