The Lord Mayor's Show is 804 years old this year. It is the oldest, longest and most popular civic procession in the world, filling the whole City of London and attracting hundreds of thousands of spectators every year.
This is the official app for the Show. It is your guide to the procession and the day. It uses your location and a series of procession beacons to tell you who is who as they pass by and show the whole procession on a map. It can show you good places to watch from and suggest attractions to visit in between the main events of the day. It also provides background and historical information about the Show and shows lots of interesting and useful places nearby including tube stations, toilets and first-aiders.
We use your GPS location to support several of these services, including the live procession guide and if necessary, locally-targeted warning messages. Please be aware that continued use of GPS running in the background can dramatically decrease battery life.
We have been working hard to reduce the battery consumption of the Show's app. It only checks your location on the day of the Show and within the Show area, and only while you are moving around. The information is very useful both in the app (where we can tell you which float is passing) and in Guildhall, where we have an anonymous map of crowd density on the wall, but we know you're probably out all day and we don't want to drain your battery.
