When and how did everything begin?
What is a miracle?

Or the great catfish that carries the world on its back? These fantastical myths are fun – but what is the real answer to such questions?

Praise for The Magic of Reality for iPad:

"Richard Dawkins’ “The Magic of Reality” is a beautiful, educational iPad experience. The Magic of Reality is an educative book, which is further enhanced by its interactivity and wonderful full-colour artwork on the iPad’s large screen. If the topics dealt with here interest you, or even if you’re just a fan of the author, it’s worth a trip to the App Store."
The Next Web

"Great for kids. And for adults who have ever asked, 'Rainbows, magnets, gravity—how do they work?'"
Boing Boing

"As a fun introduction to the big questions of science for adults and teens, it's a corking little app."

Praise for The Magic of Reality:

“I wanted to write this book but I wasn't clever enough. Now I've read it, I am.”
Ricky Gervais

“It's the clearest and most beautifully written introduction to science I've ever read. Again and again I found myself saying "Oh! So that's how genes work!" (or stars, or tectonic plates, or all the other things he explains). Explanations I thought I knew were clarified; things I never understood were made clear for the first time.”
Philip Pullman

“From the first sentence it reads with the force and fluency of a classic ... a luminous, authoritative prose that transcends age differences.”
The Times

The Magic of Reality is also available as a text-only ebook from the iBookstore.

Needs Update

My daughter is 9 years old and could really benefit from this amazing app. It’s kind of old and no longer works on iOS 11. I’m hoping they can make the few small changes required to get this app working again and back onto my iPad. She’s being taught things in school and I was hoping this well thought out and designed app could help!

It’s a book, and it’s an app!

I love that this is both a book and an app, but there’s a trade off in it not being a proper ebook. You can’t highlight words to look them up or to make little notes. There’s not direct link to the Table of Contents or an index. Small little things like that, with an ability to export notes, would be nice. A book like this is great for curious little minds to make a reading journal with, but the text is essentially an image. Even PDF’s let you high-light words and bookmark favorite pages and passages. I hope an update includes the most basic forms of these features for studying.

Intriguing, entertaining, encouraging!

This app made me once again live with the curiosity of a three year old. By asking seemingly ordinary questions (what makes a rainbow? Why do bad things happen?) and then answering those questions with us through illustrations, animations, and experiments, it's a journey that makes you want to keep asking. Illustrations are quirky, interactive a cool, and Dawkins tone though all the wiser is never condescending right now. There doesn't seem to be such a way.... I only wish it was easier to skip to chapters!
