Years after its debut, The Room remains one of the most absorbing puzzlers we’ve played. Use ingenuity and intuitive controls to manipulate a series of nested boxes and unlock the secret inside. As each thrown switch and decrypted code reveals another intricate enigma, breathtaking sights and eerie sounds weave an irresistible atmosphere of suspense. All the more amazing for being the debut effort from Fireproof Games, The Room beautifully blurs the line between entertainment and artistry.
My brother introduced me to this game and I was hooked immediately! I couldn’t wait to sit down and play again this evening, which has turned in night, but to my surprise, I won! Now I have no choice, but to continue to Room II! Let the game begin…
The game is beautiful and the puzzles are good. My only issue is that, imo, there are too many hints about what goes where. This is aside from the active hint function, in this one, if you click on something it will give a hit about it, like a square peg goes here, or missing a cog here.
The graphics are stunning and the puzzles are a but tough at times but that's all the fun of it is the great challenge it brings too the table! I started playing this on my own on my ipad mini however when my nephews who are in 6th and 7th grade saw what I was doing the we're mesmerized! I was happy too have them join in however I was a bit flustered when I got to sections I couldn't figure out yet they did lol.... Nonetheless I'll be honest I loved it so much I'm upset that I finished the whole game in a day because there's only a few levels so if I knew that I would have taken my time, also there's a message at the end of the game saying something about it being the makers first game and there will be more games to come, I don't understand if that means there will be an update too add more levels to the game edition I've already paid for or if I will have to buy a whole new game each time? That being said , I would have paid $3.00 for this game I loved it so much however I'm a little disappointed with the $1.99 I already paid with there being very few levels. So buy it and enjoy it I know you will, and note to the game maker please make an update to my current purchase of The Room as I am eager too play on. In a nutshell you won't regret the purchase however you may not want to start playing until your in a nice comfy spot and ready too spend some time with your device and this game because its ADDICTING! :-) Great Job
I feel a little inadequate trying to express anywhere near the high praise for this game app that it deserves; the creator/creators of this riveting game are nothing less than brilliant... it is THE BEST game app I have seen. If I could hand out awards I would award these people a whole plethora of awards, they deserve them all. The game is visually stunning -which I don't say lightly- and that is not all that sets it above and apart from others. The Room grabs your interest -in almost a chokehold- right from the first second you see the Start Screen and open the door for it -and from there the game is simply wonderful. I've nothing negative to say about it, it is a brilliant piece of work, it is magnificent; every moment you are in this particular game is a moment filled with wonder, curiosity, magic, an unearthly sense of danger...I felt the most deliciously eerie feelings all the way through it as I played and putting it down for mundane things like eating and sleeping was only possible because I governed myself rigidly... Wellllll...okay, sometimes I did. Without a doubt it is worthy of BEST GAME OF THE DECADE. Don't spoil your joy by searching for cheats, it is waaaay too much fun just enjoying your play time with this one to ruin it... Best of all, you complete it feeling quite marvelous and even a bit empowered!
The puzzles in this game are well thought out, with the use of the magic lens adding a refreshing dimension not found in other games in this genre. Hints are available if you get stuck, however I did not end up using any at all. Some puzzles are obviously more challenging than others, but none were so frustrating as to distract from the overall enjoyment of the game. I consider myself very experienced and good at this type of game, and I would say the level of difficulty is easy to moderate. The graphics in this game are stunning and the animation sequences are impressive. The audio is not so much a music soundtrack, but more like ambient sounds that add quite a bit to the overall experience. The game draws you in completely and creates a beautifully immersive gaming experience. Add to this an easy and intuitive interface and you have the makings of an excellent game. The only downside I can think of to this game is that I was able to complete it in just a few short hours, but I have to admit that during the entire play through I was fully engaged. There is something to be said for a game that grabs its audience from the moment the app is opened to its final conclusion. I highly recommend this game for players of all levels, and will absolutely be buying the sequel.
Amazing game. The graphics are beautiful, the game is challenging yet relaxing. It takes advantage of the unique controls offered by the ipad, not overdone with bells and whistles, but absolutely PERFECT! The puzzles are very imaginative and creative, nothing you have ever seen before. It is a giant puzzle box (think Hellraiser times 10!) which get bigger and more elaborate and amazing as you progress. The puzzles make you think, while not being overly complicated or frustrating. There is no time limit or score to worry about, so you can concentrate on the tasks at hand at your own pace. I strongly recommend a quiet darkened room to really enjoy the atmosphere and music. The actual screen is very simple, just the beautiful box and the one or two items you may have- no menus, banners, distractions of any kind, creating a total and immersive experience. While I was about to say this was too short, I just glanced at the time and noticed hours have gone by! I am definitely wanting more, and anxiously await a sequel or update! While the price may seem high due to the lack of real replay value, the experience and gameplay do make it worth it. And if you break up your time by levels, there is a very good chance you can play through again with still a touch of challenge. Would rate 6 stars if I could! BRAVO!!!!
Classic "puzzle box" genre blending observation, intuition, and a little luck (unless you are gifted with Jason Bourne-esque super memory!) Older players can avoid the clue helps and younger players (pre-teen+ concepts) can receive increasingly helpful hints. Great 3hr challenge for seasoned players but over too quickly. Sets foundation for future "Rooms". Narrative not needed to solve boxes but hopefully portending future expansion story lines that I hope will interleave more with the puzzles at hand. Incredible grfx and simple interface controls. Weak "replayability" in current version (no stat loggers like time to complete, move count, etc.) making me want to try to "improve" my previous attempt(s), but subtle engineering concepts have me wanting to let my 9 yr old try it and coach him through (no way he could complete on his own - didn't explore all hints for effectiveness, though) as a dad/son bond opportunity. Could be an epic fail with his patience level but will try anyway.Hope future Rooms don't go too much down the "Dark Side" with developing ominous narrative implications... Not clear to me if story arc expansions will stay SciFi, Sorcery, or both but this version is fairly benign (I'd say rated PG or whatever the video game equiv is). Overall, very enjoyable evening fare. Looking forward to the next Rooms. :-). -Brian
I can't stop playing this game. I've become enchanted by it mystery. It grabs hold of you and takes you down a blurry rabbit hole of occult and alchemical bewilderment. Similar to the atmosphere of games like Myst, The Room creates this air of haunting and mystical enigma. Constantly stringing you from one clue to the next, expect players to think critically and for themselves. The narrative is vague but creates something of a hook to keep the motivation to continue down the spiraling mechanisms of its strictly touch based and requires you to interact with the objects; lending to immersion and creating a tangibility to the room and objects of the game. I should give would be players a tip before you begin. This game uses multi touch gestures every now and again for some of the contraptions. Don't forget to experiment with all the tools and movements possible. Some things are not as they appear at first glance so always take a second look. Take your time too. There's no reward for rushing through this masterfully crafted game. I cannot recommend this game if you're not interested in solving puzzles that require more than a few taps and simple mechanics. This is a thinking mans game. Don't miss out on this series. It's one of the best games I've ever gotten on my iPad.
I was one of the generation that grew up on Riven and Myst so I was definitely intrigued by these gamesI enjoyed playing The Room due to its many multitask puzzles. There were quite a few times that I just stared at the screen in an attempt to figure out my next move. I enjoy the type of game that makes you think, rather than just shooting and killing everything in sight. My only complaint is the hint icon that would help you along if you got stuck but usually I was a couple steps ahead of it already. Not saying it did not come in handy sometimes, but it was a bit of a pain because it seemed it was every move you made it was giving you a hand to help.I was a little disappointed that it ended as quickly as it did, because I was able to solve it in a little over eight hours, noncontinuous because I was at work. Still, it was a very nice game.I am going to check the reviews on the remaining games before I decide to purchase. I hope they get harder as they go or it really will not be worth my time in buying them. Good luck if you decide to purchase this game. It is definitely madefor somebody who think outside the box
This app was amazing, probably the best puzzling app on the App Store yet. The quality of the graphics was stunning and beautiful. The motions and animations ran fluidly and smoothly. I would hope for an expansion, or "The Room 2" as a continuation of the storyline. The game's story was interesting enough, but the gameplay really caused the app to shine. The puzzles were hard to figure out, and the notes along the way added to the depth of the game. The in-game music was a bit repetitive, yet drew me in in a way, causing me the stick at the hardest challenges. For the gamer who doesn't want too much action, or who wants a game worth playing while relaxing, this is perfect for you. My biggest concern would be for the more dedicated players such as myself, as the game, in my opinion, was rather short. I had. Purchase the game today, and promptly finished it within three hours. I was a bit disappointed, which caused a loss of a star in my rating. However, should there be another part to The Room, I wouldn't consider this to be a problem anymore. The app is reasonably priced, and anyone willing to pay the two dollars to buy it definitely got the bang for their buck. I hope to see more great games from here in the future, and all in all an quite satisfied with this product.
