Description

Runcast is an essential part of your pre-run routine. Check the Runcast before your run to decide how long to run, what to wear, and even when to wait a bit or do your workout inside. When you know the runcast, you'll be prepared no matter what it's like outside.

Nothing is going to stop you from running today, but you don't need bad weather to make your workout any harder. Is it worth getting dressed just to get drenched?

Using dependable weather data, Runcast helps you decide whether to run now, run later, or just run anyway.

A bit to be desired

This app fills a niche that has been left unfilled in weather apps, and I'm a huge fan of the concept. However, there are two main issues with this app:

1) A paid app with a premium upgrade. Given that I'm already paying for the app, it is a bit disingenuous to push a $3.99 upgrade in-app. It should be either free with an upgrade option or somewhere in the middle (e.g. $1.99) for everything— initial download included.

2) A huge thing that is missing is humidity being factored in as a "running condition". I live in a humid city, and it is essentially impossible to run when humidity is higher than 70% (and very difficult above 60%). Skin precipitation makes it impossible to vent in these conditions, and I would argue humidity is more important than temperature as it needs to exceed ~95° for temp to be an issue. However, the app doesn't factor in humidity— and could very well tell me to "run now" in 80% humidity.

As a suggestion: The app could also use a tool that tells you what to wear based on preferences.

As a basic app, it's okay, but not worth any money without additional functionality.

Developer Response ,

Thanks for the feedback! Your point about humidity is well taken. I’ll consider that for a future update.

As for clothing suggestions, I find that while clothing choice correlates generally to weather, personal preferences vary pretty widely, so most suggestions would be pretty obvious (it’s cold, wear a hat!) or not specific enough (it’s cold enough for a headband, but not a hat, but I don’t own a headband)—and can fall flat.

Pricing is tricky! I want to provide an app that’s useful out of the box, but still covers my basic costs if folks don’t feel like upgrading. I appreciate your specific thoughts on it.

Let us know if you have any more feature request or run into issues.

Best,
Nick
