The Thrive app also gives you access to Healthable features like social engagement and activity tracking. You can set goals and your Engagement Score and Activity Score will track how close you are to meeting them daily. The Thrive app also offers information services like Thrive Assistant, Translate, Transcribe, and Self Check, which lets you check your hearing aid performance without an office visit.

EDGE MODE
Industry-leading sound performance provides you with instantaneous adjustments for the most challenging listening situations.

FALL DETECTION AND ALERTS
Designed to help you stay independent, falls can be detected, and alert messages sent to selected contacts.

THRIVE CARE COMPATIBLE
You can use the Thrive app to share helpful information like physical activity, hearing aid usage and social engagement with people you select and who have the new Thrive Care app. This helps you maintain independence and provides peace of mind for the Thrive Care users you share with.

SELF CHECK
Allows you to perform a diagnostic test of your hearing aid components without having to make an office visit.

TRANSCRIBE
It’s like closed captioning for real life. Conversations are transcribed so you can read what's being said.

TELEHEAR™
Get help anywhere. Connect with your hearing professional by video call and obtain minor hearing aid adjustments directly to your hearing aids and smartphone.

AUDIO
Enables carefree communication using your iPhone®. Delivers superior sound and pristine audio streaming of any music or media played through your iOS device. You can also have Siri® read emails and texts directly to your hearing aids.

ACCESSORY CONTROL

WHEN it works, Fine. When it DOESN'T = GARBAGE

When I am watching TV and this is successfully streaming it is a highly effective solution for someone hard of hearing. However the thrive app is decidedly dysfunctional. It consistently will "lose" connection to my hearing aid. Despite turning on and off Bluetooth, repairing my hearing aids, unplugging and plugging in/turning on the TV streamer, I am still left with a non-functioning Thrive app in which I do not have any streaming. This is extremely upsetting as a member of the hearing impaired community, and it is hubris for Starkey to state that they have a functioning app when it is a 80 or 90% dysfunctional app.

Developer Response ,

Thank you for the feedback. The Apple ecosystem can let other devices on the same WiFi and cloud account connect to the hearing aids. If you have ever paired to another device and leave the Bluetooth on, that device can connect to the hearing aids. If you have another person on using the same cloud account and use hearing aids, it will kick the other hearing aids off. Turn off handoff, and audio handoff. It will help.

App w/potential if it worked consistently

Unfortunately the app fails to maintain a consistent connection to hearing aids even though they are reliably paired to iPhone or iPad. This means that the ability to customize settings or utilize the other sophisticated features built into the app is severely limited. Developer’s comments about turning on and off Bluetooth, etc. in response to reviews are decidedly unhelpful to everyday users who deserve a functional, stable interface. I hope that future updates will address these deficiencies. As of now this app fails to deliver what it promised which is great potential.
Additional information: Handoff is turned off. Yes, I have both iPhone and iPad. Both are continuously searching to connect resulting in rapid drain on battery especially with iPad. App should be able to handle more than one device at a time. Awful programming. On top of that, I am currently traveling with a friend who also has iPhone and iPad. Even though she doesn’t have Thrive app installed, her devices are constantly "searching" for my hearing aids under the accessibility settings draining her batteries as well. I have turned hearing aids off, stopped wearing them, trying to get batteries in hearing aids to die so that our devices are usable for the 2 week duration of our cruise. What a terrible experience.

Developer Response ,

I'm sorry for the experience. It is likely that your devices are connecting to another Apple device at the time you are attempting to use it. Only guessing because the lack of details on the situation. I would recommend turning off Handoff and test the results. You can work with your Audiologist to try and reproduce the issue while in the office. If they are able to simulate the results in office that means a solution can be found. I hope this helps you.

Talk to consumers first ,

Talk to real people

The developers of aids like this seem to design these aids and the “educational” materials (such as the user manual) in a vacuum. For example the user manual is not written in plain language and is designed with geeks in mind. The average reading level in the US is I believe fifth grade and for older people, it is lower. Yet they are ones more likely to experience hearing loss. They are also more likely to have other sensory impairments, especially tactile and vision ones. Health materials should be in plain language and provided in print as well as online. If online, they should meet some of google’s basic accessibility guidelines. The user guide fails to meet even these basic requirements. Please get real consumer input (not surveys) when aids are designed.

Developer Response ,

Thank you for the feedback. Please let your Audiologist know your feelings as well. We do have online resources.
