Tiles
Other than word games, I’ve not enjoyed a game on my phone as much as Tiles! I like no silly music, no silly characters and no rescue
Themes just me thinking😊 Thank you!
Repetitive and some of the levels are guessing games
There seem to be a bare handful of tilesets used to generate the puzzles, varying only in colors, which gets repetitive quickly, although some of the sets are more interesting than others (particularly the ones where you have a variety of shapes that fill different slots in the tile, a background, and a watermark - those are visually interesting enough to play repeatedly, but not all of the puzzles are). Plus, the concentric color puzzles (there's a circle one and a rounded square ish one) are a guessing game when you have the same color on top of another, there's no way to tell, because the same color can repeat in multiple adjacent rings and you can't tell the inner one exists.
Also it was a bit disappointing on the planet levels that the same planets don't match if they don't happen to be in the same rotation position.
Lastly, this says it uses AI to generate levels? If you're actually using a whole AI that's an absolute waste of processing power, if you're just procedurally generating them it's disingenuous to call it AI, and either way the tools can do more than the game is doing with them. Like, you can procedurally generate the shapes themselves, not just their placement on the tile, for example, or procedurally generate the colors with more variation.
3.5 really Update
I do like this game, but I could easily like it a lot more. There is no option to play another round of the variation you’re on, instead of always having to go on to whatever comes up next. Unfortunately, what comes up next is much more often one of the variations I don’t much care for, and hardly ever the ones I most enjoy. I like playing my favorites, and seeing if I can improve my number of moves without making an error, or playing again if I make errors, but that isn’t an option. Also, sometimes a game comes up with a background that makes it nearly impossible to see the game elements, and there’s nothing you can do about it. So those occasions aren’t enjoyable at all. If those two elements were to change, the game would be a 5 for me.
Update: now just a 3. Has begun running an ad between every variation, a fairly long one. Will play less, as I don’t have time for sitting thru so many ads, and I get bored.
