Description

TimeSnapper runs in the background of your Mac, taking screenshots of your desktop every few seconds all week long.

TimeSnapper lets you play back your week just like a movie. You can play it at any speed you like, and jump in at any time you like.

Did your browser crash, causing you to lose that long post you were writing? Do you need the exact wording of that error message you got 10 minutes ago? No worries! Get them back from TimeSnapper's record of your on-screen history.

When it's time to fill out that dreaded timesheet, TimeSnapper is a savior. No need to tear your hair out trying to remember where all the time went.

Select from snapshotting your active monitor, all monitors, or just the active application window. TimeSnapper can save screenshots at full resolution and quality, or at levels of your choosing, so you can control how much disk space your screenshots will take. Screenshot intervals, and optional automatic cleanup of old images to save disk space, are configurable as well.

TimeSnapper is highly performant, and should have no noticeable effect on the performance of your Mac.

TimeSnapper for macOS was developed in partnership with the team that brought you the original TimeSnapper for Windows. Note that TimeSnapper for macOS is a separate codebase and product from TimeSnapper for Windows, and not all features in the full version of TimeSnapper Professional for Windows are also included in TimeSnapper for macOS. Please see our website or contact us for full details.

TimeSnapper is not intended for monitoring others' computer use. By installing and running TimeSnapper, you agree that your use of TimeSnapper is exclusively to monitor your own activity, and not the activity of others.

Insurance Policy Against Crashes

This app is many things, but the most glorious is: It's an amazing insurance policy against crashes.

It is impossible to fully protect yourself against random crashes of the system — and that usually means you'll have to rewrite that really detailed technical bug report, or well-argued political rant from scratch!!

Not so with TimeSnapper: It lets you record your screen which is exactly what you need in this situation.

The app is so well-designed: Initially setting it up is super simple, and the window to browse through recordings is really well done, with nice visuals to indicate when shot shave been taken, and excellent controls to go through the images at a varying speeds. It evens has a way to auto-clean pictures (this is useful if your main usage is to recover work after a crash, less so if you are doing quantified self and intend to keep all images).

The only improvement I could suggest is the ability to change the destination folder. If you are looking to save your whole history, the size will grow very fast, and you'll need to use something like Hazel to automatically transfer to external storage.

Absolutely Indispensible Software

I have been using TimeSnapper for over 10 years on windows. As a consultant who bills by the hour I find TimeSnapper to be absolutely critical to making sure I get all my time captured (especially on those days where you're hopping from one fire to the next and can't even keep up with what all you did). It's also great for personal accountability. And no cloud means no compromising confidential data.

Great initial port of the Windows version

If I wasn't so familiar with the Windows version I'd be raving for having found this great little utility that "just makes sense to exist."

Hopefully some things get improved from this point on:
- detect screensaver and nor record it
- the Productivity data
- filtering by app
