Don’t waste your money
I wish I could give this zero stars. After buying my watch today. After atleast 30 attempts to get this to sync to my phone it will not work. Looks like the last update to this app was 7 months ago. It only gets to 8% and then stops. Nice watch but waste that I cannot use it to full function. Pretty unsatisfied. Seems like Timex and Guess does not care. Thanks for wasting my money.
Bluetooth Works; App is Rudimentary
After reading other reviews, I was nervous that I would have trouble with the watch pairing over Bluetooth, but I succeeded quickly. I can see how other users might’ve had trouble with that. The watch does not try to connect over Bluetooth for very long, so timing is everything. On the first try, I was too slow, and the watch turned off its Bluetooth pairing before I instructed the app to connect. On the second try, I was ready to act quickly, and victory was mine.
The app has no account signin, and does not appear to send any data to the Timex servers. It appears to keep the data locally. It does offer to synchronize it to Apple Health, which I enabled so that I can keep the data in one location.
The app is pretty basic. It is not as fancy or sophisticated as the apps from companies like Garmin and Fitbit. However, thus far, it seems to do the job as intended. Unlike other smart watches I have used, the watch does not have Bluetooth on all the time, so in order to synchronize the data from the watch to the app, you have to start trying to sync from the app, and then turn Bluetooth on using the button on the watch.
A New Battery and it Works!
After losing my Timex Expedition to the ocean when the strap let loose while on my vacation, I broke out my brand new Timex Datalink watch from storage when I got home. The included instructions weren’t very descriptive, but I was able to figure out most of the features. I then downloaded the Timex app, and thought that I’d be the one whose watch actually worked/synced with the built-in Bluetooth, but sadly, I’m among those whose watch doesn’t fully function, too. I’m using an Apple iPhone 8 with the most recent update. After trying numerous times for my watch to sync with my phone, it kept failing. I finally gave up and succumbed to the fact that my watch wouldn’t work the way it was intended to work. NOW, fast forward a month. The battery finally died, so I got a new one. I decided to fire up the app again and try syncing my watch one more time. Guess what?!? IT WORKED!!! Perhaps the developers should mention that it in their app that if a watch isn’t syncing, a new/fresh battery should be used.
