Join a team

Find a team with an active manager. One who doesn’t demand a ton of stars per day or levels per tournament. This will help the issues many complain about - too few coins or lives. My team requires three levels a week AND, most importantly, that you ask for and donate lives. You earn a coin for every life you donate. They add up. I kick people off the team if they are inactive for 3 or 4 weeks, unless they send the team a chat message telling us they’ll be off line a while. These days we rarely win the weekend tournament, but we pretty much always place. And there is a Monday group treasure chest that we always get which gives 100 coins. We’re not rabid players, but we do like to play. We don’t demand levels during tournaments because sometimes you hit a bad spell. If a team member doesn’t go up many levels but consistently gives lives, they stay on the team. We just want you to play and have fun. There must be other teams like ours you can join. We are ‘Trailer Toons’. Look for us, we sometimes have openings. Or look for another team. Don’t be afraid to quit a team if they aren’t working for you. Unlike other games, you don’t need to have FB friends or log on to FB to join a team. That’s a good thing.

Clean, uncomplicated fun

I have played this game for over three years, and it has remained a constant on my phone when other downloaded games have come and gone. There’s a ridiculous number of similar puzzle games out there, but I’ve stuck to this one for its simplicity and for its variety. There are no in-game ads to deal with, and runs fine offline (though to receive extra lives and daily items/challenges, you’ll want to check it with WiFi when available). Levels CAN be extremely challenging, but if you’re scrupulous with your resources there’s no real reason why you HAVE to spend money on it. I have occasionally bought booster packs for weekend team tournaments, but I don’t mind spending less than $7 maybe every other month to help support the game. Fifty new levels drop every two weeks, and no end in sight! Finding a good team to join is really important, though - you don’t have to be sociable, but look for an active team to send free lives and net free resources with the Team Chest, and you’ll have a MUCH better experience. Feel free to look for my team, High2High!

Fun at first

Toon Bast is a lot of fun at first with rewards for finishing every 10th level and gaining every 20th star, but the more advanced one progresses in the game, the more it feels like the house always wins. Coin rewards initially start out big, but gradually get smaller and smaller. If you only need a few more moves to clear a level, but the awarded number of moves runs out, you can buy 5 more for 100 coins. No problem early on, but as those rewards start to dwindle, you’ll need to fork over some real cash for some in-game coinage. Considering the game controls how “lucky” you are to collect similarly colored blocks (the method to clear a level), it appears the designers have built in unfavorable odds that cater to the impatient player who is willing to spend actual money for some in-app coins and power ups. Power ups are another commodity that are randomly awarded and, in some cases, needed to finish a level. If extra coins or power ups are in short supply, you’ll be waiting a long time to finish a level. Bottom line: fun to play, but either be patient or have money to burn.
