I have AirPod Pro 2 and use them on multiple Apple devices (MBP, Mac Studio, iPhone, iPad) and as you may know sometimes these devices compete for the AirPod’s connection. Most notable the Macs insist on stealing the AirPods from my iPhone when I need to use them on the phone. Or as I hop between Macs. I need to listen to audio from my Studio, but I’m checking mail or a message on my MBP and it wants to steal them from the Studio. Thats where ToothFairy comes in and is perfect for disconnecting them from a one or both my Macs when this becomes an issues. Honestly what is normally a headache and almost a dealbreaker is pretty much resolved with ToothFairy. I couldn’t enjoy my AirPods as much without it.
1. Great at connecting to my macboo at home, macbook at work, mac mini as I am using them on my iphone and then want a quick switch. This is a joy. 2. However, when I click off of the icon in whichever mac thus unpairing it it does not auto pair back to my iphone which id like to be the default essentially. This is what it say it does but it does not do this. IF there is a way to do this please explain. IF you are in fact expecting having to go back into the bluetooth menu on the iphone to repair please confirm. This is ok but misleading.3. Lastly, I have this in my menu bar at top right but the dock icon does not hide no matter that I clicked it off. Developer can you kindly explain how to execute this? Perhaps screenshots of both the app preferences as well as the dock menu options that need to be clocked off?
Developer ResponseHi,1. That’s great to hear.2. ToothFairy is only intended to ease connecting to (and disconnecting from) a Mac. I don’t think we ever claim otherwise. A Mac can’t make a Bluetooth device connect to an iPhone—that would require software running on the phone. However, you don’t have to go to the Bluetooth menu in the iPhone Settings to connect back to the iPhone. Most audio apps have a button that you can tap to switch more quickly. It looks like a triangle pointing upward to a series of concentric circles. ToothFairy and the Bluetooth menu both deal with connecting and disconnecting devices that are already paired.)3. macOS 10.14 may keep a “recent” app icon in the Dock even if the app has hidden it. I connect my AirPods, Bose Wireless Headphones, and a wireless bluetooth speaker to my Mac, and I'm cosntantly switching between them. Before this app it was such a pain and waste of time waiting for one thing to disconnect while trying to connect the other. This has streamelined it immensely and I haven't had any trouble since using this. It also let's me create seperate profiles for each bluetooth device. Another thing I love about this app is that it has an option to automatically switch input from your bluetooth device to your computer, so there wont be degraded sound quality.SO WORTH THE PRICE, if you had any of the issues I mentioned, this will be a lifesaver.
ToothFairy does exactly what I need it to do to - it make it easy to use BlueTooth headphones on my Mac. I tried one afternoon to use my AirPods with my iMac and that put me off that idea. Having to set it up and undo it completely to be able to use them back on my iPhone to take a call there - well no, I'll not be doing that cycle again.ToothFairy solves that little issue with the touch of an icon in the menu bar. It is simple, easy to learn & use, inexpensive, well maintained, and from a reputable company. I own two more of their products and trust them to support me every day.
Before you think, we’ll I can do that.. just go down the bluetooth dropdown - what is so hard? You’re right you could but what if you want to make a hotkey to do that function can you do that? Maybe, a little script with a hotkey shortcut.. cool you’ve got the same solution but you want to check you battery well back to the bluetooth menu to dig and check again. This was the position I found myself in, but instead of figuring out how to create a easy way to see the battery I bought this app instead and it was worth every penny.
This made life so much easier. If i would be listening to music on my phone all i have to do is click the icon and it would connect. There is one thing tho. Lets say i had my airpods connecting to my mac and i dissconnected them from my mac so that way my phone would connect to them they would disconnect at first but then still be connected to the mac and I had to go into my settings(in my iphone) and connect them. But other than that this is a must buy for airpod users or anyother bluetooth user.
Developer ResponseGlad to hear that like ToothFairy. To be clear, the AirPods are not still connected to your Mac. The issue is just that the iPhone isn’t set to use them as its audio output device. You can select the AirPods without going to Settings, either through Control Center or through the audio output button (looks like an upward-pointing triangle on top of a bunch of concentric rings) that’s built into many apps. To be honest, I can NOT remember every actually gettng this app to work … conveniently. They have a trouble-shooting matrix or chart that is almost 20 steps long and takes over an hour to try EVERYTHING they suggest.I finally uninstalled, started from scratch.Still, the alleged functionality of this app is NO better and NO more convenient that APPLE’s built-in functionality with their Menubar-accessible Bluetooth capabilities.Actually, with my Jabra headphones, Jabra earbuds, Apple AirPods Pro, Soundcoure speaker, and Bose Resolve speaker, MERELY turning ANY of them on gets them connected. Come to think of it, I can’t remember WHY I ever even wasted my money on this application/utility. Oh, someone recommended it to me. I respected them as one of the few tech “influencers” I actually listen to.Well, I am no tech influencer, but, seriously? This app seems nothing more than a “solution in search of a problem.” IF I could post screen shots of all the issues and the logs from my Mac, I would. SAVE YOURSELF some money. If it’s not broken, don’t fix it. Apple’s own Bluetooth module with menubar access is PERFECTLY adequate. It is NOT broken. It just works.
Developer ResponseThis customer contacted us a few days ago, saying that the app wasn’t working. We asked for clarification about *what* wasn’t working but did not receive a response. The diagnostic report file that was included showed that no Bluetooth devices had been added to ToothFairy, so it seems as though that was the source of the problem. Before using ToothFairy to connect/disconnect a Bluetooth device, you need to click “+” button in the Preferences window to add that device to ToothFairy. The app asks you to do this on first launch, and there is more information about it here: https://c-command.com/toothfairy/help/adding-a-deviceWe do indeed have a list of 13 steps that you can try if a Bluetooth device is not connecting to your Mac (https://c-command.com/toothfairy/help/why-isn-t-my-device-con). This is not specific to ToothFairy. Rather, Bluetooth is a technology that’s unreliable for lots of people, with strange interactions between different macOS features, battery and interference problems, software that needs to be reset, etc. A device that works properly with your Mac is a prerequisite to using ToothFairy, so we tried to collect a lot of general Bluetooth troubleshooting information in one place.As described on the store page, ToothFairy offers lots of features—including customizable icons, keyboard shortcuts, switching between Macs/iOS devices, battery status, scripting, and improving audio quality—that are either not available or not as convenient with what’s built into macOS. However, if you’d prefer to use the built-in stuff, certainly feel free to do that, and you can get a refund via Apple.
I wanted to like this App, I read the entire description and it said that it worked with Magic Keyboard and Magic Mouse. I a Mac Studio and a MBP and want to use 1 monitor, 1 Keyboard and 1 mouse. I chose the Magic Keyboard as it allows mw to use my finger print to log in, etc. I thought that by pressing the assigned hot key I’d be able to disconnect from 1 Mac and connect to the other but it doesn’t work, once it’s disconnected from 1 Mac I have to manually plug it into the other Mac for the bluetooth connection to re-establish, I wish they would have said that in the description, I wouldn’t have purchased this app. I guess the only good thing about it is that now I can see the battery level on my Magic Keyboard but it’s not worth the money for that.
Developer ResponseThe app description specifically says: “Switching Bluetooth devices between multiple Macs requires that the Bluetooth device can be paired with more than one computer/phone at a time; this is not supported by the current-generation Apple Magic Keyboard/Mouse/Trackpad.” I wish this were possible. Please send Apple feedback to bring back multi-device support for its keyboards and mice.
I just got my AirPods a week ago and while I mostly love them, switching between devices is not as smooth as I would have hoped. This little app does a great job of letting me know at a glance if they are connected to my Mac - perfect if I'm about to hop on a Webex, and I can keep an eye on the battery level if that meeting goes long.I hope the developer will take this concept to the next level and release an iOS version that will allow one-tap AirPod connections through the iOS Widgets screen and/or Control Center.
I love this app! I just click the icon and it connects seemlessly. For the longest, I’ve had to click the bluetooth icon and scroll to the airpods or beats that I was using at the time and then wait for them to connect. With this app almost as soon as I click the icon, it connects and even shows the battery life and you can customize the icon and have multiple icons on your bar to differenciate the different bluetooth headphones, etc. Well done and I highly recommend if you use bluetooth devices between iOS and Mac!!
