Topos US is an app that provides access to download and view high resolution USGS topographic maps for the United States.
REGARDING MAP DATES:
You will often see a date on a downloaded map that seems pretty old. This is the date of last physical survey. This could be a long time ago. Often maps will be compared to aerial photography to verify buildings but not always. I can't do anything about this and besides, mountains don't move that quick.
See the "Currentness Year and Version Year" section here: http://egsc.usgs.gov/maplists/howtoselectmaps.html
This app includes 49 states, with most states having over 99% of the maps for the state.
Please note the following:
Alaska is not included.
Most of North Dakota and Florida are missing.
Access over 50,000 USGS Topo Maps, zoom, pan, rotate, etc.
Please contact us at email@example.com so we can resolve any issues quickly.
Have a feature request? Send those over to support@pignology too. I'm always happy to fix problems and make apps better.
FishMike: Pinch to zoom in/out is in the app. Can you get in touch with me so we can figure out why it's not working for you?
Maps will now open in the application registered for JPG viewing, most likely Preview. This is a last step effort to bypass inconsistencies across versions of Mac OSX with respect to a particular user interface object that was being used. Hopefully this allows for greater flexibility with what you can do with a downloaded map, i.e. duplicate, crop, rotate, print, pinch zoom, etc.
If you have questions or comments please email firstname.lastname@example.org.

Worked great before Mt. Lion
In Lion, this app worked very nicely. After upgrading to Mt. Lion, zooming is buggy at best, and I can't navigate through maps; I'm stuck at the lower left corner. It will often freeze or hang and cause my fan to go haywire. Please fix these bugs/make it compatible with Mt. Lion! It is a great app when it works, but is crippled until it is fixed.
Looks possible - missing some maps
Just installed. Looked for maps in my vicinity - (Eastern Mass) and found good maps, but some of the “adjacent” maps listed in the intex on the topo sheets are not in the list of available maps for my state.
The maps apperar to be scanned copies of the USGS 1:25,000 topo sheets.
At least one of the maps I downloaded (Milford) was miss-registered in the scanner and part of the index info was missing.
It would be awesome if there were and “Index” map that would allow one to find the most appropriate map.
Has potential but not quite there
Had all the maps that I wanted to see, but in the viewer I found that the resolution was not enough. Too grainy for close-up viewing.
With Family Sharing set up, up to six family members can use this app.
