Translucent provides detailed real-time information about what is going on inside your Mac. At any given time Translucent displays how much each one of your processors is being utilized, detailed information about how your memory is being used, how much data is being sent and received on your network interfaces and how much is being read and written to your hard disks. It displays itself as small addition to your status bar with tooltip-style detail popups; displaying more detailed information on any of the sensors in the status bar. Translucent also displays its sensor information in windows for larger and more detailed information viewing.

Does not work on Mac Pro with Mountain Lion
The only reason this doesn't have a one star rating is that I've translucent for a long while now it worked fine up until Mountain Lion came out. For some reason it will not work properly on my Mac Pro anymore. When I start it up Translucent eats up 100% of one CPU core for no apparent reason. That's crazy! When I try to open the preferences it crashes. I don't know why an app of this nature would be so unstable. I have seen at least two updates since Mountain Lion came out and nothing has fixed this issue.
-----So if you have a Mac Pro just be warned it may not work-----
Better than I expected - For $2 you can
First, I have been using iStat Menus 3 for sometime, it's $16 and one of the most sophisticated system monitors I've seen, but I figured I'd check out Translucent for $2. I was not exepcting much, but boy was I surprised. This is a VERY good app for the money and if you need basic system monitoring, like a hard drive activity indicator (this alone is worth $2), processor load, or memory utilization; you will not find a better application for the money.
For basic monitoring, this program EASILY holds its own against iStat Menus 3 which costs 8 times as much per machine! However, "high end" monitoring of things like temperature, battery, and access to a whole host of sensors - or the ability to monitor your computer state from you iPhone, then you'll need to pay the extra money for iState Menu 3.
In my case, I'm runiing them both as I perfer the network and hard drive indicator of Translucent over iStat Menu 3, and now I'm only using iStat Menu 3 to monitor what Tranlucent does not.
I really hope the developer continues to add features like temperature monitoring, battery life, and other sensors. This first attempt is an impressive start!
This is the best status monitoring app I've found. It's attractive, takes up little space compared to the amount of data it provides. Most things about it are customizable, and I've found it to be very reliable/accurate.
Sure, there are other status monitors out there that monitor more, but they're either more cluttered, ugly, or inconvienient to get to when you want to look at your CURRENT resources … not your resources 20 seconds ago.
Translucient is clean, convienient, and attractive. I have yet to find an app that monitors the essentials in such a tidy package. The only thing I wish it had, was a way to free up memory so that I didn't have to have a separate app for that.
With Family Sharing set up, up to six family members can use this app.
