Great, wish had US units

I downloaded this app about a year ago & it has been tremendously helpful in my recognition of my alcohol consumption. Other apps track days but this app calculating my alcohol units has been tremendously helpful in my path towards potentially quitting. I’m only giving it 4 stars because the only units are UK units, and maybe that is the only thing that exists, but UK units are 330 mL when a traditional US beer is 12 ounces or 355 mL. Just coming from someone who is obsessively tracking from an Excel and to know my month by month total is off by about 50 units from a year total. So offering US units and also one decimal point would probably help those obsessives when it comes to figures. Otherwise a tremendously helpful app!

Hi starlitdazzle, thanks so much for your review. It’s great to hear that the app has helped you recognise and moderate your drinking. We are a small UK charity but we've done a lot of work this year on app updates to launch unit definitions for two additional countries. At the moment, you can only opt for the UK, French or Swiss definition of units, but I'm pleased to report that we've already started working with an American partner. We hope in 2022 they'll be able to support further app updates. If you need any guidance on workarounds just get in touch at dryjanuary@alcoholchange.org.uk.

Unreliable

In a lot of ways, this is my favorite app to track my “alcohol free days.” It’s wonderfully simple and minimalist, in a way that a lot of other sobriety and habit tracker apps are not. But ultimately, the bugs became too much to overlook. If you accidentally tap “stayed dry,” there’s no way to update it to add your drinks. It LOOKS like the option is there, but nothing happens when you tap it. It was annoying, but I could live with it. The one thing I couldn’t live with, and that led to me deleting the app: it signed me out constantly, and getting back in was a pain, because the app couldn’t correctly access my keychain. A task that should have taken me 2 seconds (logging sober days) routinely took much longer as I had to go hunt down my secure password, copy/paste, type in my email address, etc. There are other apps that do what this one does without the headaches.

Developer Response ,

Hi Laynie22, I'm so sorry that you've had such a frustrating experience with the app, especially as you say it's your favourite to track dry days. We're a small charity and rely on user feedback to make the app as good as it can be. Since your review we've worked hard to fix any bugs reported, and we'd like to invite you to give the latest version a go. If there's anything we can do to improve your rating, please get in touch at dryjanuary@alcoholchange.org.uk.

Life changing

I’ve never had an app that was life changing, but this one proved to be just that. After using this app for the month of January and using its motivation, support, and solid information I was able to recognize and genuinely change my relationship with alcohol. There’s no going back to the way things were and I’m so grateful. I highly recommend this app to anyone wanting to make a change whether it be taking a break from alcohol, changing drinking patterns, or quitting it all together. I only wish it offered a way to make it any month of the year so the plan could be done anytime of the year.

Developer Response ,

Hi agernon, thanks so much for your five star review of the Try Dry app. It's great to hear you've managed to change your relationship with alcohol for the better with the help of the app. We appreciate you sharing your ideas of how to improve the app and we will add your suggestions to our log for any future app developments. We're also developing a new email series to support those people setting 30 day challenges throughout the year. Be sure to keep your eyes peeled for exciting new features coming to your app soon! Best wishes.
