Great, wish had US units

I downloaded this app about a year ago & it has been tremendously helpful in my recognition of my alcohol consumption. Other apps track days but this app calculating my alcohol units has been tremendously helpful in my path towards potentially quitting. I’m only giving it 4 stars because the only units are UK units, and maybe that is the only thing that exists, but UK units are 330 mL when a traditional US beer is 12 ounces or 355 mL. Just coming from someone who is obsessively tracking from an Excel and to know my month by month total is off by about 50 units from a year total. So offering US units and also one decimal point would probably help those obsessives when it comes to figures. Otherwise a tremendously helpful app!

Hi starlitdazzle, thanks so much for your review. It’s great to hear that the app has helped you recognise and moderate your drinking. We are a small UK charity but we've done a lot of work this year on app updates to launch unit definitions for two additional countries. At the moment, you can only opt for the UK, French or Swiss definition of units, but I'm pleased to report that we've already started working with an American partner. We hope in 2022 they'll be able to support further app updates. If you need any guidance on workarounds just get in touch at dryjanuary@alcoholchange.org.uk.

Excellent for Assessing the Problem

I’ve been drinking heavily for 56 years because I like to drink. Since retiring 20 years ago, my consumption increased to at least 10 drinks per evening. Mind you I’m large at 235# and only drank after 6 p.m. and when no business or volunteer functions, but I became worried about the health consequences. So my wife and I heard about this App, and gave it a try. I’d never tried to quit before, and we both found it relatively easy. No drinks for the first few months and afterwards, only on social occasion with a limit of two.

I thought I’d feel better and all that, but feel no different. Oh well. However I do feel better about my health prospects as I get older (approaching 80), and I’ve kept recording just to be in touch with my sleep cycles, moods, etc. Therefore, I obviously believe it’s a very good app and do recommend it for those who wonder whether or not they are true alcoholics.

Motivating

I have been using the app since Dry Jan 2020 and have found it very helpful in cutting way back on my stubborn habit of rewarding myself after work with a beer or two. I have lost 12 pounds, upped my exercise time and most notably am sleeping soundly.
Shout out to the developers who have addressed some of the early glitches that were a bit annoying but really never affected the usability of the app. The UK system of tracking units was unfamiliar to me, but once I understood it, it was so much more precise. I saw just how much of a difference there is between a 7% pint of beer and a 5.3% 12oz can of beer. It is important to note the difference between a UK pint and US pint.
Highly recommend the app. Thanks to AlcoholChange UK!

Developer Response ,

Thanks Dolores Teresa for your feedback and 5* review. We are always trying hard to improve the app so we are pleased you can see improvements. Thanks for using Try Dry and have a wonderful evening
