I’m really enjoying this app—it’s been such a help in boosting my productivity. There are so many things I want to read, but I rarely have the time to sit down with them. Now, I can listen while folding laundry, doing housework, or working out in the garden and orchard. The features and flexibility make it incredibly convenient, and I truly appreciate having this tool.
Love it! Buuuut…
Every couple sentences there is a long pause in the reading. Otherwise, the voices are great and I love that I can import my kindle books!
Frustrating to use
I noticed this app mentioned on a Reddit post. It seemed worth a try, so I installed it on an iPad. Then I tried testing the app with one of the included samples as well as with a kindle book. The male AI narrator voice was pleasant, but also was the only option available with the free version. Controls and customizations for the app were simple and understandable. Maintaining an internet connection is required. However, the AI narrator is able to voice only a single page at a time before being paused—whatever text is onscreen is the limited amount that will be voiced. As an example, at the settings I had, almost 60 seconds were taken to narrate a single page. This was followed by a pause of some 23 seconds, during which the content of the next page loaded and was processed, before the audio resumed. So, while this may be valiant first effort at creating a text-to-voice AI reader, it is exceedingly frustrating to even maintain interest or focus with such lengthy delays between each page.
