Legacy version, please upgrade to Tweetbot 3 for Mac instead.

Tweetbot is a full-featured OS X Twitter client with a lot of personality. Whether it’s the meticulously-crafted interface, sounds and animation, or features like multiple timelines and column views, there’s a lot to love about Tweetbot.

Multiple Timelines. Quickly switch between your lists as your main timeline.
Multiple Windows and Columns. Display timelines from different accounts side by side.
Notification Center support.
Beautiful Retina graphics.
Mute filters lets you block messages from users without unfollowing them. You can also mute hashtags and specific keywords.

Legacy version, please upgrade to Tweetbot 3 for Mac instead.

What’s New

Version 2.5.8

On August 16th Twitter will disable parts of their public interface that we use in Tweetbot. Because Twitter has chosen not to provide alternatives to these interfaces we have been forced to disable or degrade certain features. We're sorry about this, but unfortunately this is totally out of our control.

- Timeline streaming is now disabled. Your timelines will now refresh automatically every 1-2 minutes instead.
- Notifications for Mentions, Direct Messages, Follows and Follower's Tweets will now be delayed by a few minutes.
- Notifications for Likes and Retweets have been disabled.
- Activity tab has been removed.

Much better than the official Twitter app...

I’ve found another thing that drives me crazy. In the official Twitter app (as well as the Twitter *website*), if you have an image copied to your clipboard, and paste it into an open DM, it’ll upload the image and insert it into the DM. In Tweetbot, that only works when composing public tweets. I am not sure why it doesn’t work for DM. Not a dealbreaker for sure, but it’s sure be nice to have parity with the Twitter app.

Original Review:
There’s only one thing that carried over from the official Twitter app that I wish wouldn’t have. When the app has focus and you press “F”, it favorites the current tweet, and there’s no way to change this behavior. Shortcuts should be customizable, or at the very least, there shouldn’t be any shortcuts without a modifier key. I keep my browser and Tweetbot both open at the same time, and sometimes, I think I’ll be typing in my browser and accidentally favorite tweets I didn’t intend to. It shouldn’t be that easy to do something that causes a notification to another user.

I really REALLY like this app. But.

The things I love:
- The ability to mute hashtags / users / keywords for varying amounts of time. This is basically why I bought it, and why I keep using it (and will continue to). Election season is much nicer now!
- Syncing between Macs so that I can leave home then pick up where I left off when I get to my Mac at work, without struggling to find my place again (I also have the iOS version, which it also syncs with (with caveat, below)).
- Easy management of mutiple accounts.
- Handles memory way more efficiently than the native Twitter desktop app, which routinely crashed when I was in my second account’s DMs.
- Create Topic seems very, very useful.

The things I don’t love:
- Does not support group DMs. So I inevitably seem like a jerk who ignores DMs until I remember to check on the website.
- Can’t drag & drop more than one image into a tweet.*
- Can’t add animated GIFs contextually to a tweet.*
- Can’t add emoji contextually to a tweet.*
- Can’t swipe between images on a tweet with multiple images attached.*
(* These four are, I think, part of the native Twitter desktop app.)
- Synching with Tweetbot for iOS is challenging if I haven’t checked Twitter on an iOS device within the last few days. (There is no “Scroll to last read” that I can find.)
- View own profile > click gear > View in Favstar all by itself—would love to have option to Edit Profile.

Doesn’t have support for Polls and user-specific tweet notifications don’t seem to work

This is my favorite Twitter app for the Mac, better than the offical version for sure but it’s missing some small things that make this app feel too different from the real Twitter experience in my opinon.

First and foremost I have to say I have really no probelms with the user interface. It’s very organized and and a smooth running app (far better than the offical Mac app). It seems like it takes FOREVER for the app to be updated to keep up with Twitter’s new features that are added to their app though. This app is still lacking the ability to see Pinned Tweets and well as view and vote in Polls. Some of my favorite accounts that I follow run polls frequently and it’s annoying to see the question asked but not even see the Poll, it’s honestly confusing sometimes.

The main reason Tweetbot is my first choice for using Twitter on the Mac because of the options we have to get notifications with the app, even though I feel the function is lacking in some areas. I wish there was a dedicated section for adding new user specific Tweet notifications. Under Preferences > Account I wish you’d add a dedicated space to edit and or view accounts we have notifications for and add the ability to get a notication when that account Retweets a Tweet. Same things goes with muted accounts.

It’s a fairy good app, but it’s not as good as it once was (as the reviews show).
