Tweetbot for Twitter 17+

The devs behind Tweetbot are amazing and deserve support for making what I would say is the best Twitter client out there. To be honest Twitter should pay Tapbots for their designs and efficiency of the app. Even though I will continue to support the app as well as the devs, I think maybe quarterly feature updates that you have to pay a upgrade fee would be cool or even a decently priced upgrade charge for the yr. I think that everything going subscription doesn’t make sense when people are starting to get subscription fatigue.

I think that yearly update charge, or even every six months not being advertised as subscription but something someone would have to consider and purchase it especially if the features are worth it. Which I believe this app and the devs do a great job of doing so I can see people supporting it. Maybe some creative thought can go into a different model but I’m all for this update and the devs being supported because I want them to continue going with what is the best Twitter experience that they are allowed to make because Twitter themselves took away a lot of the features.

I think the app is pretty good for the most part. The look, aesthetics, and display are attractive. However, there are a few cons that I think bring down my rating for it.
The fluidity of the app is a little clunky. I find myself having to press the home button multiple times to refresh to the top of the page which is a turn-off for me. Also, I do not like the tab bar at the bottom too much, I don't find it to be very helpful. Especially when I'm simply trying to find out who recently liked my tweet or mentioned me. I have to go to a certain section of my profile to see who liked/retweeted any of my tweets opposed to how the original Twitter app I have all of that information in my “Notification Tab” that is merely one click away.
The way the app functions when trying to interact with a tweet is just rough all around tbh. For example, on the home screen, if I see a tweet that possibly has other people interacting with it and tuning in to a conversation, I cannot simply press on the tweet to see what's going on. Tweetbot makes me press on the settings of a tweet to look at the details of everything which is honestly time-consuming and annoying. I do believe these are easy fixes that would improve the functionality of the app. Overall, the functionality and the clunkiness of how the app operates need to improve in my opinion. Once these things are addressed and fixed, I will have a higher rating.

The mass explosion of the subscription model is one of the worst things to happen to consumer software. Professional software suites like Adobe can get away with it for the reason that their alternatives don’t have the same market share and integration, but as a third party social media client, you’re already the underdog, and you’ve got more convincing to do to get me to use your product. Fortunately, Tweetbot 5 was a stellar app, and in spite of Twitter’s stinginess with their API for all those years was full of really nice features. Tweetbot 6 brings all of that and more to the table—time will tell how much more—but I’m not sure the added features make it worth it the shift in business model. I realize developing a good application takes time and money, and I’m all for supporting developers. I paid good money for Tweetbot in the past. But at the end of the day, for an average person like me, it’s literally just Twitter. It’s not so important to me that I won’t just keep using TB5 and the Twitter web client rather than shell out even more than I paid for TB5 every year for something new. Perhaps if the Tweetbot iOS and MacOS clients could be bundled together this could be a good deal, but otherwise it’s sad to see one of the all-time greats go this way.
