Description

If you’re looking for free or low-cost campgrounds or enjoy boondocking out in the wild, this is the app for you. Our filters allow you to find them very easily. Overall, our app includes over 39,000 public camping sites – no other app comes close. NOTE THAT THIS APP DOES *NOT* INCLUDE PRIVATE/COMMERCIAL CAMPGROUNDS, ONLY PUBLIC.

The Ultimate Public Campgrounds app is dedicated to presenting information about publicly-owned, non-commercial campgrounds across the entire United States, including Hawaii and Alaska. In this app you will find facilities ranging from full-service campgrounds at state parks and Corps of Engineers parks to remote boondocking and back-packing locations with no facilities or services. It is based on data from the web-based Ultimate US Public Campground Project http://www.ultimatecampgrounds.com. Included are US Forest Service, Bureau of Land Management, National Park Service, Fish & Wildlife Service, Bureau of Reclamation, Corps of Engineers, Pacific Crest Trail, state parks and other state facilities, county and regional parks, municipal parks, utility company facilities, Indian reservations, military, Tennessee Valley Authority, non-profit (museums and conservation groups) and a handful of miscellaneous locations.

Import routes from a GPX file. This makes it much easier locating campgrounds near the route you're traveling.

Current statistics:
Over 39,000 total campsites.
Over 19,580 of the campsites are FREE!
Over 23,650 of the campsites are $10 or under!

An updated database for this app is available approximately every month so you have the most recent and up-to-date information available.

This app is intended for everyone regardless of their camping interests - it can be filtered by the facility owner, such as Forest Service or county. Users can also filter on camping preference, such as Tent, RV or Back-Country, elevation, fee, showers, and more. Mark locations as your "favorite."

Tapping on a campground location on the map shows available information about each location such as total number of camp sites, number of RV sites, number of electric hookups, whether there are showers and/or an RV dump station, fees, nearest town, phone number, elevation and web site. Of course the app can only show what information that can be discovered for each location. Send location data directly to our Road Trip Planner app. Cache non-Apple maps to disc for offline viewing.

INTERNET NOT REQUIRED. While this app works best with Internet access, it is not required as the campground data is embedded within the app. Some supplemental services do require Internet access but this does not detract from the overall usefulness of the app.

Note that this app does NOT contain information on commercial campgrounds. Also note that military campgrounds are included because they are government-owned, but in most cases their use is limited to active-duty and retired military personnel.

In an effort to continually improve the accuracy of the data, users are encouraged to use the feedback function on the Ultimate Campgrounds web site or the email function within the app to submit corrections, additions and suggestions.

There is also a Macintosh version with a similar name, available from the Mac App Store.

Best site for locating non private campgrounds. Lot of state, municipal parks as well as Fed parks

This is pretty much the only App I use for locating non private campgrounds. It does not show private campgrounds at all. This app opens up so many hidden places and more so gives you all the information you need to know about the park. If it’s rv suitable, as well as facilities. Directions , website, telephone info, even takes you to site to book on line if your planning a few days ahead. It’s a treasure for us on the road since we are fully solar powered to find a park of any type to spend the night we can fit on is all we need as well as power, water, dumping or hike and explore. Well worth the small price they are asking for App. It’s updated and easy to navigate.

Good data set, terrible map

I do a lot of off the grid traveling in my truck camper during the winter months. I got this app to help me find free or inexpensive camping locations. It’s very useful for that and I can recommend it.

Unfortunately, the developer relies on Apple Maps, which includes terribly outdated satellite view images. How can someone get an idea of the terrain and roads in a remote area they plan to travel to when the satellite images are three or four or more years old? For example, on a recent visit to Wickenburg, AZ, I looked at camping options north of town. Apple Maps satellite view showed roads under construction for what has since become a huge subdivision with more than 400 homes. Those homes didn’t get there overnight. Why is Apple’s data so out of date? Why would the developer utilize such misleading data?

Google maps is much more up-to-date and reliable. I really wish the developer would make the switch or allow users to select the map data they prefer.

Conflicted

WIN - finding dispersed camping sites, as we prefer avoiding RVs and crowds, with off road overlanding rig and rooftop tent. BIG FAIL - heading to found site with “Central Water” listed and finding NO POTABLE water!! To avoid driving hundreds of miles with water weight we had relied on filling up at site. Instead, we trustingly set up camp COMPLETELY in 90* degree weather and headed down to “central water” to find it was not drinkable. We had to pack up site completely (it’s an RTT starched to car) to drive to a real water source, then set up camp again. Massive fail. Please make this critical distinction.

Developer Response ,

We’re sorry for the inconvenience you encountered with regard to the water situation at your chosen campsite. We rely on various sources for our campground descriptions, since we obviously cannot visit in person all 37,160 locations in our database to verify details. If the information we find says the water is “non-potable”, we mention that. Without knowing the location to which you are referring, we cannot make the notation you suggest. If you would contact us with its name, we’ll correct it.
