Description

There will be a new version of Union for Mac, iPad (and probably iPhone), with more features and written with SwiftUI. This version is now free. Enjoy and stay tuned.

Union is a free menu bar app that makes it easy to combine multiple images into one.

- After installing and launching the app, activate it by clicking on its icon at top right, next to the clock;
- Drag and drop images into it and press the "preview button" at the top left;
- The native "Preview" app will display the final result -- which is now available for editing / saving / sharing.

Side-by-side only

As far as I can tell this only adds images side-by-side, as in each subsequent image dragged into the window gets stitched to the right-hand side of the previous image. No way to stitch images above or below. Looks like someone's 20 minute project. Does that one thing well (although I never did figure out where the resultant image was being saved). Also the Settings wheel claims the "Close Union" shortcut is ⌘C (which seemed odd to me) but turns out that the designation is incorrect and Close is achieved with the usual ⌘W shortcut. Any images loaded into Union remain in its window until you either manually delete them from the layout or ⌘Q to Quit and then reopen.

Developer Response ,

Hello! Many thanks for your review.

I'm working on a new version of this app. It's written in SwiftUI so it will run on Mac, iPad and iPhone from day one. It will also address all of your points, providing features to manipulate the images (like rotate them, fix the resolution, reorder them, etc). :) I'll post an update here as soon as it's done. Thanks again.

Always using CPU (Updated)

Why is this always using ~20% CPU and keeping my MacBook warm? Is this secretly mining crypto?

Update: now it's down to just always using ~5% CPU, maybe because it's not Apple Silicon native?

Rotate your photos and then stitch for vertical

It's true that Union will only stitch side by side (horizontally). But there is a workaround to stitch vertically. Use Preview to rotate each photo 90 degrees to the left. Then drop them into the Union process box. Then click on the eye icon and they will appear stitched together in Preview, albeit "laying on their sides." Use the rotate feature of Preview again to reoriented the stitched-together photo to the desired vertical orientation.
