* An always-on controller is required for some features such as Amazon Alexa Voice Control. For instance, a dedicated iPad or iPhone could be used that doubles as the remote for your Living Room. The always-on controller can also be the macOS or Apple TV edition of this app. Note that Roomie Voice Control and Siri control do not require an always-on device.

* Some old devices may not be controlled directly via Wi-Fi and require an adapter for infrared control. See to determine whether any of your devices need an adapter.

Note: Some features of this app are not listed above because they apply only to the iOS edition of this app.

What’s New

Version 7.1.2

* macOS fixes to Speech Recognition, Siri Shortcuts, and key commands (cursor keys, return, and space act as cursor/play controls). [7.1.2]
* tvOS 15 support has been restored and upgraded including media feedback, voice, and gestures. All devices from prior releases are automatically upgraded. Keyboard support goes through the normal system notifications system.
* TV Guide listings country support expanded to include Australia, Netherlands, Poland, Ireland, Belgium. Australia Foxtel may not provide listings.
* SSH Support: SSH support is now provided as an underlying connection type for code sets with server-side public key and client-side password support. A generic code set of brand SSH type Auxiliary allows sending shell commands to compatible devices such as macOS systems.
* SnapAV Wattboxes of both the old and new variety are now fully integrated in the Switches category of the Homebar. If you have Wattbox devices in your configuration, Update the manifest in the device to activate this.
* Sonos: Announcements via Sonos in Intercomm now provide a local-network-only grouped mode to synchronize all intercom audio throughout the home. This mode requires the sending device to be on the LAN or VPN. Remote intercom announcements via Sonos can be sent via the Sonos Cloud mode.
* Additional Automation options for some lighting systems. [7.1.2]
* Vera: Consider binary lights as switches instead of lights to ensure proper commands are sent. [7.1.2]
* Voice Control fixes to Set Volume commands, and Notifications are now displayed for commands sent. [7.1.2]

• Roomie Voice Control! A new method of Voice Control has been added. When activated from Roomie’s Settings, the following syntax can be used. This feature is specific to each device, so you choose which devices listen for voice commands by activating it on that device. Roomie must be in the foreground to listen for commands. All commands begin with “Roomie”. If you do not specify a Room Name, the current room will be assumed.
• watch/play/turn on/start/launch/activate/open/toggle {Activity Name} [in {Room Name}]
• turn off/power off/system off/shutdown [in {Room Name}]
• play/pause/stop/mute/unmute [in {Room Name}]
• skip/replay/next/previous [# times] [in {Room Name}]
• set volume {#} [in {Room Name}]
• volume {up,down} [# times] [in {Room Name}]
• tune {channel name or number}
• Volume Matching: Redesigned Volume Hard Buttons feature. No longer relies on deprecated iOS components. Volume is now always relative to the iOS device volume. Converts to device volume. Added delay and warning before apparent large volume transitions. We advise taking a moment to learn the new behavior using a source with no sound.
• HomeKit Synchronization can now be disabled on a per-home basis.
• Barco projector IP control including display of detected content aspect ratio and crop control for Cinemascope models.
• Trinnov/JBL receivers now display decoder and mode in the volume dial.
• Automatic Home switching based on actual location. Requires Location permission to operate. Clear or set the Home location in the Homes panel to disable/enable.
• Added location specification in the Homes panel. Various other improvements to Homes editing panel.
• Disabled Googlecast discovery. It's too low value with 2 other discoveries on the same device(s) potentially. Can be added manually.
• Code Set Editor: Improved code editing field auto-expands as more lines are needed. Monospaced font. Preserves formatting.
• Revised subscription offerings. Existing subscriptions are unchanged.

Simple, beautiful interface for integrating multiple systems

I’ve gone back and forth for a long time to try to find a good looking interface for controlling g everything around the home. There are systems that do it well, like control 4 and Savant, but those are really expensive and I don’t want to hire an integrator. There are completely DIY options like Home Assistant that just don’t look as good. Roomie Remote is a great balance between those two extremes.

I just hope the folks at Roomie Remote continue to invest in the platform by adding new integrations and options. I haven’t needed tech support or requested it but I do hope they recognize that their true market is likely tech saavy folks that don’t want to hire an integrator. Users might need a little guidance and assistant from time to time getting everything set up properly and it would really help the platform get adopted if they invested in providing some tech support to users beyond bug reports.

I’m in the process of getting a ton more Apple gear and iPort mounts so I can roll this out all over my house. Since the app is so configurable, I’m sure I’ll find more ways to integrate new stuff and make it even more useful over time!

Roomie Remote v.7 is simply the best remote control app available. Period.

I’ve been using Roomie from the start and through its segue as Simple Control and then back. I’m so glad Will and the gang are back on track. This latest version and their revised purchase/subscription plans with Family Sharing and free access to the app for guests eliminates a lot of the annoyances of previous versions. Yes, the app isn’t what I would consider inexpensive, but nothing on the market comes close to offering what Roomie can do all in one simple and clean interface without installing an all encompassing proprietary home automation system. With Roomie, you can press a button to control (or voice command) all your AV gear, lights, scenes, cameras, etc. from various vendors and using multiple protocols… you’re not limited to just HomeKit devices or just one brand of receiver or lighting control… you can use just about anything and have them all work together under Roomie.

I have used many versions of this app over the years for one reason, it is reliable and robust. The amount of compatible devices and the ease of remote layout and design makes us the perfect option for me in my household. I highly recommend it for anyone that has a lot of smart home devices and audiovisual equipment. It is great having a remote that will control my home theater, the thermostat, the lights, and will bring up my security cameras all in one interface.
