Exhilarating

I am enjoying this app so much. It’s challenging and different each time. I play the computer opponent and the different levels keep it challenging or easy. It’s a fair app as you aren’t forced to buy purchases to use it or get further in the game. It’s a personal choice to purchase hints, etc, but not a necessity. The upgrade without ads was the only purchase I made and well worth it.

As an older adult, it’s bringing me enjoyment and keeping my mind sharp.

I had the board game 35 years ago and played it with my stepdaughter. To this day she attributes Upwards for her stellar spelling ability as well as limitless vocabulary that’s helped immensely as an adult w/her career and also throughout her school years. How important this game shaped her little mind at the time wasn’t even a thought but these fun word games do have that impact.

But all that aside, it’s great fun! And I love not having to add the points! It’s all automatic. No cheating, no dictionaries to see if it’s spelled right or if it’s a real word, it automatically does it for you. Love it, it’s my favorite word game!

UPDATE to my Purvis review titled: Computer plays non-existent words!

Below is the text of my initial review. I received a response from the developer who said the game uses a Tournament Scrabble dictionary while I was using my standard online dictionary instead and the words - while obscure - are legal.
Who knew?? I sure didn't. So I humbly apologize and am revising my rating. Time to expand my vocabulary!

*****
My Scrabble vocabulary is very good to excellent so I was surprised at the challenges I've had with this game. I decided to check some of the computer generated words and they aren't even in the dictionary - here are a few from the one I'm playing now and the one just prior: Caeoma Etape Hisn Nae Tryma Coft Additional ones (added on 4/10 - a couple of weeks after the ones above): Impled Torse Mycs Haded Noria Sice Pacy Poori Suk Algoid Nurl Inia Orcs Argal Orcs Dulia I see there was an update that I had not installed at the time of this edit. If the dictionary problem has been fixed then I stand corrected.

Developer Response ,

Hi Anew. We use a tournament scrabble word list (details in Help->FAQ in the app). It does have a lot of obscure words but they are legal scrabble words. I tested a few in the scrabble dictionary page and they are legal in scrabble as well.. you can check words on that page:

https://scrabble.hasbro.com/en-us/tools#dictionary

it's true some of these aren't in every english dictionary but we went with a list that tournaments use. Hope this is helpful

This game could be so good…

Hey developers lonely star: operators are standing by to give you actual helpful feedback about how you have broken your own game.
But your email link is broken.
Are you just not wanting to hear from your faithful followers? Or is it actually an error on your part?

What do you think of a game where the developers can’t even program their email support link correctly?
What do you think of a game that has a dictionary that is so hobbled you can barely play words that are in common use let alone real words that adults with intellect use?
What do you think of gameplay that is so excruciatingly slow that you can’t get onto the next board?
I find it sad that this fantastic concept is licensed to someone who is doing such a mediocre job of bringing it to the App Store. Rudell: you could find a better rep for your game. Instead of concentrating on smooth gameplay and improved dictionary‘s they have now introduced bender the robot style cartoon rip offs of Futurama. These avatars do not render succinctly and accurately across the game play area. And they have generally goofed up downloads overall. I will continue to play this game because it is what we have for this type of tile placement… But it is not a stellar game. Don’t expect too much and you won’t be disappointed. But really developers: could you make it so that your support link works? Email link? Simple stuff…

Developer Response ,

Sorry you're having trouble contacting us. From what we can tell the email link is working but maybe there's a particular issue with the email client you use on your device that we're not aware of. You can mail support at "support@upwords-app.com"

The word list we use is called TWL06 which is a scrabble tournament word list.. yes there are many obscure words in there but they are legal scrabble words.
