LEARN LANGUAGES FAST: uTalk gets results because every word you hear is in your new language and you speak, listen and understand from the start.

With free starter words in 140+ languages, you can try it risk-free. Score 100% in the games and you can unlock an extra topic for free.

1. LEARN FROM THE LOCALS: We record native speakers so you hear every word pronounced clearly. Mimic their pronunciation and compare your intonation with theirs. Practise until you get it right – you can even slow the audio down if it’s too fast.

2. USEFUL EVERYDAY WORDS AND PHRASES. Topics take around two to three hours to complete. But you can dip in for just five minutes at a time or longer. With 60+ topics, that’s a total of 180 hours of learning.

3. KEEPS YOU MOTIVATED: Check your scores on progress bars as you move through five progressively difficult games. To get full marks, you’ll have to know the words as well as your own language.

I love it

I love being able to explore so many languages. And in the school where I teach the main languages are spanish, vietnamese, somali, oromo, amheric, tagalog, punjabi, samoan and more. This is the only app I could find which gives access to learn basic phrases in all of them (add quiche and kosrae please). You won’t learn a language on this app, there’s no development or explanation, it is a phrasebook only. But to that end it’s great. I used it traveling in Albania and Bosnia and it really helped. The native voices differentiating for male and female is nice, The games are good practice without being boring, though the memory game is unnecessarily hard. There’s speaking practice too. My frustration is that I only really want to learn a few phrases in a topic. I do want to ask how they are and say happy birthday, etc, but I don’t have interest in asking them where the atm is or whether I should boil the water. But to do the practice games I have to learn all. With a subscription you can make your own phrasebook, but you can’t test yourself on it. And if you don’t buy the subscription you won’t know which phrases are in a topic so you can only guess if they’re useful. But overall I’ve really loved it for what it is and it will continue to be a go-to app for me.

Developer Response ,

Thanks for saying you love our app and for giving such thoughtful and useful feedback. We also hear your request about adding more features eg games for Phrasebook words and it’s definitely on our wish-list! In fact we face a continual tug of love between putting our resources into adding new languages or putting them into further app developments and we try to juggle them both. We are glad that our language range has come in useful on your travels and with your multi-lingual students. Incidentally, did you know our app works for english and non-english speakers alike? See the cog on the top right hand corner for the range of languages that it gives instruction in - and there’s also a special Classroom edition which is useful for groups of language learners. For any details, drop a line to Happy language learning! 😊Best wishes, Sarah

Good app, but some questions...

I have downloaded other UTalk classic apps and have been trying to get the ‘free topics’, but you have to sign up each time, so it doesn’t work. I would also like the ability to get the topics on the other uTalk go app which I was able to do, however since the new updates the on classics, I am no longer able to do so. If there is any way to fix this that would be nice.

Great, but...

I love uTalk. I have been using it for a while now, and you can learn a lot from it. If I could make a couple of suggestions:

1. With the wide range of topics you provide for each language, I think it would be great if you had a review feature to keep our memories fresh.

2. A dark-mode feature perhaps? I would like to practice with your app at night, but the app is a bit (too) colorful for my taste, so I use another language app that does provide it at the moment.

3. More sentences! Vocabulary is great, but sentences will strengthen the app’s use even more, especially when there is vocabulary that is just way too easy, and it makes it less challenging.

Now I also noticed there is a bit of a problem with the audio. The voices annoyingly stutter on occasion. Hopefully that can get fixed.

Anyway, this is a great app, and I hope to add that extra star to its rating once one or more of the following features are implemented. Thank you.

Update: I added the extra star for its great customer service. But I hope the following updates will make it better.

We’re really glad you like uTalk - Lean Any Language and appreciate the time and trouble you’ve taken with your suggestions.😊 To answer your points in order: 1) Our existing Phrasebook feature is a useful way for users to store and review their choice of words and phrases. In the future we’d like to develop the app so that learners can drop these words into the games and be tested on them. 2) We agree a dark mode would be a nice and is something we’re happy to look into in the future. 3) We understand your request for us to add more sentences but it would involve getting 145 sets (male and female) native speakers back into our recording studio as well as contacting and commissioning 290 native speaking translators (two for each language). It’s not impossible but it’s not something we can do lightly. 4) We are concerned to hear about any stuttering and please contact with more details so we can investigate. 🙏 Finally, thank you very much for saying our customer service is great. That means a lot to us! 😊 Thanks also for the 5⭐s. Best wishes, Sarah 🌻
