Best Heart Rate Based Running App

I just got back into running in April of this year. Due to a variety of medical issues, last year was rough on me and I didn't do much physical activity. I was worried about anything that was too stressful on my body, so I decided on Zone 2 training. Then I found VALR and was stoked about the method they use. I signed up for the 10K Cooper River Bridge Run in Charleston, SC and decided to solely use VALR as a grand experiment in Zone 2 training.

Well the race was this past weekend and I got the best time I've gotten since 2013, pre-kids, 8 years younger. But not only that, the training seemed to be just about the right intensity the whole way and I was able to avoid injury, which has also been a problem for me in the past!

I'm sold on the VALR method. As a side note, anytime I had any questions their support was so quick to respond. Wonderful app, caring team!

Love this app

I’ve been using this app for a couple of weeks and it’s quickly become an essential training tool for me. I’m using it to prepare for two upcoming races. I love how I can input my available workout time and days, and it generates a progressive schedule to follow. I’ve also become interested in improving my body’s ability to run longer distances with a lower heart rate, and I really like the apps focus on heart zones. It’s a helpful tool to work toward long term gains in performance and fitness. Highly recommend.

Issues with the sync from the iwatch to the app on my iPhone

Ok thanks for responding back just so you know it didn’t work. Now I have two skipped workout on my campaign but it shows up on my history on my iPhone activity app. How am I supposed to know if things are getting better if I can’t compare each workouts. Another thing is I hate the verification of your email to log in to the app. It take me at least 10 times before it lets me log into the app. Not good at all. My I watch and iPhone are up to date. I still don’t see the challenge test button on the profile page.

As promise I will continue to use the app and hope that the developers will fix the problem. Just so you know, I have tried uninstalling the app and reinstalling the app. I need some help about what to do next...... it would be nice to be able to talk to someone instead writing reviews

Developer Response ,

Hi coachj22, thanks very much for following up with these details. We understand your frustration and want to get these issues fixed. We’ll need some additional information so we can replicate the errors and identify root cause—could you please reach out to us at to discuss? We also understand your questions about the challenge set, and will update the next version of the app to describe better when that is scheduled. Please do email us, we hope to talk soon. Sincerely, Ken Gordon, co-founder and CEO
