The Via Matildica del Volto Santo is a route that stretches for almost 300 kilometres. It crosses three regions, four provinces, dozens of municipalities and many communities. It is a route rich in history, culture, spirituality and nature. From Mantua and its Precious Blood, it crosses the Po plain, passing through Reggio Emilia and the Matildic Hills, travelling along the Apennine ridge to reach Garfagnana and finally Lucca and its Holy Face, the destination or stopping point for those who want to reach Rome on the Via Francigena.
A journey in the footsteps of the powerful Countess Matilda, a central figure in the European Middle Ages, ally of the papacy and guardian of a fragile balance between the Empire and the Church. The parish churches, castles, villages and paths encountered along the way tell the story of an era marked by conflict and reconciliation, but also by a profound search for meaning and transcendence.
Among other features, the app allows you to see your position on hiking maps thanks to the GPS integrated into your smartphone and allows you to record the route you have taken. Tracks are recorded even when the screen is off, so in this mode, and only in this recording mode, prolonged use of GPS in the background can drastically reduce battery life.
It works offline, i.e. without the need for a telephone or internet connection. This ensures that it can be used even in areas with no signal and without any additional costs for telephone traffic.
