Ratings and Reviews
If this is what the first version looks like, I can’t wait to see what comes next
I love to play pool, I grew up playing it. I don’t have a pool table in my house right now, but I will soon. In the meantime, I was able to use this as my pool table and had a ball. And it’s amazing to think that this is just the first - version I can’t wait to play online with my friends
Nice game with fiddly controls
I guess, unlike other reviewers, I am a complete novice at any pool game. That said It seems like there is a control missing when the opponent scratches. It just simply places the ball arbitrarily and you have to take the shot from wherever the game places it however, if you scratch the game allows the other player to just place it wherever they want which allows them to set up the shot optimally.
In addition, the controls are a bit squirrelly. Apparently, at random, it will adjust the aim point on its own and one time took a shot while I was just walking around the board. It is very easy to initiate a pullback, unintentionally and difficult to cancel it, which can result in undesired shots as well.
All that said, it is very impressive and quite convincing. I keep trying to put my hand on the table to brace myself.
Developer Response ,
When your opponent scratches or commits a foul you have "ball-in-hand". In this case you simply grab the ball by pinching it with your thumb and index finger and drag it to wherever you'd like to shoot.
Moving the cue-tip position is a pinch gesture with your thumb and index figure. Perhaps that was happening when the aim point moved.
To cancel a shot, just release the pinch gesture.
Very good alone but sharing a game doesn’t work
The graphics and physics are very good, and once you understand that it’s not really pool but rather pool played with a shuffleboard gesture, and you learn the subtleties of how to use this gesture, the game plays well for solo play against the virtual opponent. And the “ghost ball” and “aim line” are helpful aids for learning. On the down side:
* Sharing a game doesn’t work. Regardless of the table settings of both users, it always plays 9-ball with a brown table. For example, it’s impossible to share a game of 8-ball with someone.
* If you ever accidentally touch your thumb and first finger together, it considers this a shot and hits the ball wildly. The only way to play without this problem is to be very conscious about keeping your first finger and thumb apart unless you are taking a shot.
* The table tends to unexpectedly forget where you anchored it, even in bright light.
* The game disables the AVP environments, as well as the new hand gestures that were added in AVP OS 2.
* The “game line” aid works for straight shots but not for bank shots.
