Hello and thank you for your review. Your feedback is invaluable to us as we develop our app.

We’ve taken your feedback to heart and have reuploaded our videos to increase the minimum bandwidth required to view the videos. With version 1.1.9 we have brought up the minimum video bitrate to 20 megabits / second (Mbps). Our previous version had a minimum of 5 Mbps, which renders very pixelated. Even with 10 Mbps, parts of the stream appear overly pixelated. With 4K stereo we believe a minimum of 20 Mbps is the minimum bitrate required to view the video without dramatic pixelization. Some videos provide better performance than others at lower bitrates, but 20 Mbps seem to satisfy our quality expectations across our videos.

We serve our videos with HLS streaming via AWS Cloudfront with an adjustable bit rate. When viewing our videos, our app provides Vision OS with a variety of bit rates (now 20, 30, 40, 50) and Vision OS automatically selects the appropriate bit rate based on the condition of the user’s network. We had considered removing the lower rates; however, we struggled to find the balance between having the user sit in a black screen for longer over a lower video quality. Your feedback allowed us to decide that a higher bitrate is the way to go, even if we sacrifice a bit of loading time.

We have considered doing an automatic speed test to ensure the stream quality will be good before entering the video, to make the experience a bit less surprising. Other considerations such as to allow users to “download” the video locally before playing are being considered, however these video files tend to get large very quickly so we have been balancing the ups and downs of that as well. We continue to explore alternatives, and look forward to hearing from other developers and creators, as well as seeing other apps in our space iterate alongside us.

We have not observed widespread outages, and our traffic bill has been stable and we see our expected monthly volume and usage since our app launched. Our best conclusion is that you experienced a brief hiccup in our cloud providers uptime.
