Description

Experience the magic of GPS audio walks, cycles, drives and even boat rides with VoiceMap tours in 300 destinations worldwide. They’re like podcasts that move with you, to tell stories about what you’re seeing right now.

VoiceMap’s tours are produced by insightful local storytellers, including journalists, filmmakers, novelists, podcasters, and tour guides. Sir Ian McKellen has even created a tour. It's around London's West End, where he has performed for over 50 years.

Features:

◆ VoiceMap works offline. After you download a tour, the audio will be available offline along with an offline map.

◆ With GPS autoplay, you can focus on your surroundings, not the screen. Tap on Start, and let VoiceMap guide you.

◆ If you do go off in the wrong direction, VoiceMap plays an audio alert, and you can follow the map on your screen to the next location.

◆ Listen to tours as many times as you like both in the destination and in virtual tour mode at home

◆ With nearly 1,000 free and paid tours, VoiceMap offers huge variety.

Reviews and Testimonials:

"High-quality self-guided walking tours...Narrated by local experts, they provide insight into corners of the city sometimes overlooked by regular guided tours."
Lonely Planet

“We may be biased, but could there be anything more helpful than having a journalist in your pocket when touring a new city? How about a historian, a novelist or just a really passionate local? VoiceMap culls city-specific stories from them all and fits them neatly into walking tours.”
New York Times

“Great value for money, interesting and very clear and easy to follow! I learnt lots about London I didn't already know and I have lived here over 30 years.”
Carmella V.
London’s Alternative History Tour

"I loved the tour, bought all of the New Orleans ones you had and have already recommended it to two people. As an amateur photographer who likes to take his time it was great. I will without a doubt continue to use the app."

“Loved this! Real eye opener for me as a new resident of Singapore who thought this only an island of foodies and engineers. LOL! Please produce more soon!”
Craig DeLarge
Artoholic Singapore

“I did my first VoiceMap tour and the Chanel tour blew me away. I can only recommend.”
Christelle Colman
Coco Chanel's Paris

"My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed this 'talk and walk'. A real eye opener and superbly narrated. This is a first class experience, our first with VoiceMap, and we look forward to using this program frequently in other cities. "
Keith F
Witches Riots and the Cold War, Berlin

** Just so you know, GPS runs in the background while you're on a tour. This decreases battery life and it's best to start a tour with your device fully charged.

Great for self guided tours in various cities

This has been a great app to use as you travel to different cities. It gives you enough information for each of the different stops to understand and you can always take deeper on your own if you want. It’s a pretty leisurely tour and the great thing is you can stop and take in a site or even talk to locals. At one point in Charleston I stopped and helped a lady take some groceries in and actually got to go inside the building that the tour was talking about. What a cool experience that I would never of gotten doing a normal “tour“

Really like the app

I really like this app and the tour I purchased downloaded and walked. The only problem I had was that after I closed the app when I took a break from the walking tour for lunch, it appeared that it was dumped from my phone and needed to be downloaded again. This would be a significant problem in the middle of the city with no WiFi and slow cell service. As it happened that was not the case but the app needs to be clearer and more specific about a safe way to pause or stop the tour and reactivate it later with a minimum amount of stress. Also beware that to have the app running continuously over a long period is going to eat the phone battery. Carry an extended battery pack or charger just in case.

Developer Response ,

Hi there – You shouldn't lose a download if you close the app. Did you sign out of your VoiceMap account maybe? If you do that, then yes, tours on the device are deleted – but this is because we assume that you're signing out to allow you or somebody else to sign in with a different account, and that second account shouldn't have access to the same tours. If you don't sign out, this won't be a problem. Just end the tour and then use the Resume option instead. The app doesn't track your location if you are either browsing the tour or actually doing one, and as a result it won't drain your battery.

Richmond Tour where is the history???

I’m sorry but so far this has been the worst audio tour I have ever done. Why did I walk all along here just to hear about how this person I don’t know got locked out of her apartment? We passed so many amazing spots without any mention of their history. Not even a mention of the balboa theater! Massive oversight. Also, these long silences could be largely improved with some music. The Detour app was much better than this. It is waaay to specific to this random girl’s life. We want info on the actual neighborhood. Very disappointed with this. I’m am typing this while the narrator tells some dark story about her aunt and a cult, presumably to add some intrigue to the tour. But it just feels so random and weird and again, has so little to do with learning about the history of this neighborhood since it is so specific to this one person’s experience.
