  • Finally news that are fun and informative

    defycrypto

I stopped reading the news 2 years ago because I couldn’t bring myself to read so much. Since downloading Volv, I use it every day. I prefer using this app even over Instagram and I’m learning about the most important things happening. It’s easy to dive deeper into a story, and they recently added timelines for major events in stories such as the Ukraine Russian war. Couldn’t recommend more.

  • Does way too much tracking

    NoNameGiven66

Apple privacy report shows 83+ tracking sites connected to this app. Does not ask if you will allow them to track before forcing you to create an account after downloading and installing. Does not follow Apple privacy policy. Articles contain links to and are sourced from suspicious websites and clicking on a link in an article will give you a pop-up that says “Your iPhone has been HACKED”. Use at your own risk. I for one, do not trust this app after getting a message telling me my phone is hacked while using the app and clicking to read one of the feature stories. Also many stories have links which when clicked give pop-up advertising offers to enter contests “Win A free Rolex” (better known as give us your email and we will give you some malware). Article summaries use poor grammar and am guessing they must be written by an AI. All around interesting concept but shady execution. Nothing but a waste of time. Update: Developer response is disingenuous and not accurate. Articles, not all, but definitely some of them are linked to scammy/suspicious web sites as I stated in original review. I stand by my original review. And to the developers: I have zero interest in helping you “fix” a problem you deny exits. I have less than zero interest in helping you fix your business model.

    Developer Response

Hey! Thanks for the feedback. We’re sorry to hear this. We only link to credible, verifiable sources and we’re not sure how these suspicious websites are showing up. Nevertheless, we are looking into this issue! Please email us on connect@volvmedia.com so we can get in touch with you and fix this ASAP!

  • They removed the feature that made Volv what it was

    nejwjjejejgj

This is my first time ever writing an app review because I’m so confused and upset. The point of the app was to give short, 9 second summaries of news so you can remain informed. I really liked it as it allowed me to scroll on it like a social media app, but instead of brainrot it allowed me know what’s going on in the world. It was awesome because it encouraged remaining informed and curiosity. If you wanted to know more about the topic whose news you just read, you could simply tap and it would take you to the source. I loved it because it would encourage me to learn more. But now, the feature to go to the source is gone…? Like, what’s the point anymore? How do I know if what I’m reading is legit? What’s the source? It’s frustrating if I want to read more and now I can’t. I don’t understand why they took that feature away :(

    Developer Response

Hey! Thanks so much for taking the time to share that you love the app. We’ve now made it easier to check the original source—there’s now a ‘Read More’ button right on the article card. Please update the app and let us know what you think. If this helps, we’d really appreciate you considering an update to your review and rating.

  • Constantly asking for notifications

    hadleyjanae

I’ve been using this app for several months now and I really enjoy it. It’s a great way to get brief news on various topics and read articles about the items I really care about. However, I’m not appreciating the new update that constantly asks me to turn on notifications. I can barely scroll past three articles before it asks me again. I don’t like to have notifications on for most every app because it can be distracting. Volv has a rare place on my home screen and I check it often, but I’m not sure I can handle this annoying pop up much longer. Please, ask once then respect my decision not to allow notifications. Because yes, Volv does really work without it :)

  • Removing links to the original story/thread was a bad move

    charmon79

The app is significantly less useful since removing the ability to follow a link to the original story or thread being summarized. I frequently want to read further and learn more about a particular story, but now I have to manually switch to another app and manually search for related articles. This eliminates most of the value of the Volv app for me.I also tried to submit this feedback via the “contact team Volv” feature within the app, but nothing happens when I tap the “send feedback” button after writing something.Y’all can do better. This app is no longer worth a paid subscription.

    Developer Response

Hey Charmon79! We’re sorry to hear. However, we’ve got the feedback and we’re so happy to tell you that this feature is here to stay. We’ve just moved it elsewhere.Simply long press the article and you’ll see an option saying ‘Check out the source’. And you get the rest! Let us know what you think :)

  • Was great, but no longer trustworthy

    Webeye

Until recently, this app did what a bite-size news app should: provide quick summaries of news items, along with source links so you can learn more. But now, they’ve removed source links. So the depth of the app is gone, as is any form of attribution. You can’t trust anything in the app, because you can’t see where it came from. At best, this is stealing content without crediting the source; at worst, they may be summarizing content from thoroughly untrustworthy sources and passing it off as truth. Or just making it up entirely. There’s no way to tell. Either way, the ability to read more was key. By embedding the link browser within the app, it made the entire experience sticky and valuable. Not anymore. The other changes to the app are fine. There’s a paid tier, and news items that are clearly ads. They need to monetize, and those are reasonable strategies. But I wouldn’t recommend the app to anybody now.

    Developer Response

Hey Webeye! Thanks for your feedback. We're so thrilled to tell you that this feature is back! You can see the source of the news. Simply long-press the article card > 'Check out article source' and it will take you right to the source. Try it out and let us know what you think.

  • So refreshing

    Leolox

I am really enjoying this app. I use to be a news junkie but had to stop to save my sanity. This app lets you choose three topics you’d like to hear about then gives you really fun, bite size snippets of info. I avoid US news and politics and finally feel like I can get my news fix and learn interesting things on a platform without wanting to bury my head in the sand

    Developer Response

Hey Leolox! So glad to know that you're enjoying Volv! Thanks for the review! :)

  • Like the idea. Couple minor tweaks and could be great

    Wittay12

I just downloaded this a bit ago and I really like the idea of the app. I’ve been looking for something like this for awhile. One thing i would add is having different sections to scroll under. Like if I only wanted to scroll under the sports news I would go to the sports section and swipe through the sports headlines. But overall, I do like the app and idea. Keeping it short and to the point is what I prefer.

  • Really fast and convenient!

    JasonKuma01

I initially downloaded this app just to try it out. But then I found myself using it regularly. It’s actually fantastic if you don’t want to aimlessly spend hours watching or reading news but still want to stay in the loop. They summarize the top articles and it literally takes a few seconds to read through it and understand what’s happening. Great app overall!

  • Very Biased News

    loafofbreadhead

I wrote a message asking if there was a way to turn off comments on news stories after I noticed almost all comments were from a single user who was clearly a right-winger. It made me realize that almost all headlines and stories on this app were also right leaning. Very little unbiased news. After sending in my message it asking to turn off comments it appears I’ve been blocked from using the app because the feed just times out and doesn’t load. Tried uninstalling and reinstalling. Seems like this is just a snowflake propaganda machine.

    Developer Response

Hey! We're sorry to hear this. We’re actively considering a report option for comments to address misuse. We'll also forward your request to turn off the comments to the team. To clarify, we do not block users from accessing the app – there’s no such system in place. The feed loading issue you experienced was a technical one, and we’ve made improvements since. Please update the app and let us know if it’s resolved. We value diverse viewpoints and appreciate the feedback. If you have any suggestions, please reach out to us on connect@volvmedia.com.
