Might Be A Good Start, Might Not Be

First of all, this feels like it could be something special. The world looks good, the character models are solid, and the gameplay is good enough (for now, though it needs some tweaking to make it more interesting, I’m looking at you, Slayer). But the thing I’m worried about isn’t the amount of content or how the variety of things to do. I expect those things will come with updates. My problem is the playable zones and quests themselves, which seems to be a foundational problem. The zones are huge and redundant, and you spend waaaay too much time in them. The beginning city, of which there are two major burgs, should not be the place you stay in for the first several hours. If there were a wider variety of enemies to kill or quests to do, it would be better, but as it stands you spend the first possibly three or four hours grinding through human rioters with different colored outfits. There isn’t any difference between quest hubs or quests. Once I finally progressed to the next zone, themed as a forest, and saw that it consisted of linear unexplorable pathways just like the city, I closed the game and have yet to return. WoW has you spending hour after hour in each zone, but the zones are varied with different areas within each zone with different enemies, quests, elites, and rewards. This game just doesn’t quite have that.

Warhammer meets WoW: Not what you think.

Okay, so where do I start? Ah! Warhammer a franchise that’s well known. The fans dreamed of a mobile version. It’s Warhammer meets World of Warcraft, but in soft release?
So, no auto-combat. Awesome, right? Wrong!
First the positive: Character customization is not too shabby. No, gender locking behind classes (mmorpgs for mobile games issue.) Good selection, but of course the more the merrier. Add more hair styles, color, and facial features. Add more classes.
Graphics are advance than what WoW look when first released. Cartoonish? Yes, but sharper and with clarity.
Okay, so what is it lacking as it is in soft release and please, take note what it needs.
Alright. No, character stuck button. I fell through the world. I was almost to my destination to turn in the quest and fell into the ground... I cannot get out of it.
The combat is shallow. Animation is bland, so meaning limited. It’s hold down the button to continuously hit while tapping on skills on CQC scenes.
Be careful aggroing mobs right now as you will be hit... for nearly 20 seconds I counted by chasing enemies and some invisible.
Armor durability in the beginning is like tin foil vs aluminum. Do not die! Your armor will break and repairing is annoying!
Adding more skills and classes is a plus.
But as I play further, then I will add more comment to the review.
Please give it time, this has potential!

Beauty in simplicity

Not for the feint of heart. This game goes back to MMORPG roots. If you were a fan of Asheron’s Call, Lineage 2 original, or true classic WoW, this game will feel very familiar to you. It’s merciless and the slower pace of combat and progression allows you to immersive yourself and enjoy the time you spend playing with a group of friends. No auto combat brings a sense of urgency to every encounter and focused gameplay sessions. The maps are huge and are aesthetically pleasing. There are no “pay 2 win” aspects. Everything you can buy, (extra character slots, inventory space, regiment banner, etc) can be earned with the free 2 play currency which is given liberally. The dialogue is great and stays true to the brutality and despair of Warhammer. The screen isn’t cluttered with a million different things, there aren’t a million different materials you have to farm and keep track of, there are NO dailies that make you feel like a slave for not playing for a day....basically, not for Gen Z gamer attention spans.

Give it a try with some friends (it really shines in group play). Take it slow and immerse yourself in a Warhammer game that has amazing potential! See you guys on Taal!
