The Warhammer series has made a name for itself the world over for its incredible characters, deep fantasy history, and genre-defining strategic gameplay. When you look to bring that pedigree to iOS, there's no better creative team to craft it than Rodeo Games, also responsible for the critically acclaimed Hunters series. With dozens of hours of gameplay, an expansive bevy of downloadable characters, and some of the best turn-based gaming on the App Store, you'd be hard-pressed to find a title more enjoyable, challenging, and rewarding than Warhammer Quest.
Good Core Game
This is a solid core game that really hits the vibe of the original Warhammer Quest from Games Workshop. The mechanics of the game are also similar to the dice rolling fest that was the board game, and the changes to the core mechanics feel like updates making the experience better.
The only negative to the game is the overpriced DLC. Looking across industry standards, this has to be the most expensive DLC I have seen. Now the extra missions and heroes are totally optional, which is great. But the DLC costs as much, if not more than the main game, which strikes me as a strange business decision.
That being said, the main game is definately worth the price!
Good Mobile Warhammer Game
I laughed when I saw this on steam. I could choose between playing my huge library of Warhammer games or playing this. It just isn’t a pc game. But then I saw it on the apple store and bought it for my iPad. It’s definitely worth it. Over 6 hours of gameplay in one campaign is worth five dollars, and it still doesn’t feel that old on the second time playing through. The expansions are overpriced, I don’t want to pay the price of the game for it. 3 dollars for one hero? Seriously?
About how the game was developed: The combat is good, not realistic of course but similar to tabletop. The game is mostly lore friendly, except for one thing really. As you level up higher, you end up fighting Goblin Big Bosses as the rank-and-file soldiers, which they definitely aren’t! Put Orc Big’Uns instead. The wizard is difficult to use. I think if the game is trying to use winds of magic like in tabletop, we should actually “roll dice,” instead of it randomly generating it.
Overall, while it is a bad game compared to other pc games, it’s one of the best mobile games I’ve ever played.
