I wrote wAudio because I needed a better experience for listening to audiobooks on my Apple Watch. Personally, I use wAudio at the gym, in my car, at work, or out for a walk. I generally finish one audiobook a week, so expect bug fixes & updates. Please leave reviews with information about bugs and/or feature requests.
NOTE DRM protected audio files are not supported.
NOTE the iPhone app has to temporarily export audio files from iTunes to transfer to Apple Watch to temporary file cache. Those temporary files are deleted to free up space on the iPhone as they are transferred to the Apple Watch.
NOTE wAudio does not access HealthKit data. It only needs permission to play audio in the background.
Crash fix for Series 2/3 complications.
Ratings and Reviews
First working app for audiobooks on watch
I’ve been looking for months for an app that would let me play my DRM free audiobooks on my watch without tethering to the phone. This is the first app on which I could do that!
I’d give it 4 stars, would give 5 except the SYNCing of the book to the watch does not work if you have a passcode on your watch. So, that’s the only problem that’s holding it back now.
Good for audiobooks
I’ve been searching for an app that will play audiobooks (along with bookmarking) without having to have my phone in range. This is the only app I’ve found that does that. I’ve had problems with file corruption if I don’t export files at original quality but otherwise no issues.
Unable to install on Apple Watch
I’m not able to install this on my Apple Watch.. it does not show up in the install or installed list. I’ve tried restarting phone and watch.. reinstalling app.. nothing! There also no email address to contact developer.. I feel ripped off!
With Family Sharing set up, up to six family members can use this app.
