waverails is a modular path-based loop processor, inspired by avant-garde tape music and early electromechanical musical contraptions. Instead of recording, overdubbing and splicing together tape, waverails lets you splice, warp, blend and reverse audio (live input and/or samples) in real-time by using path-based modular components. waverails can be used as an audio processor or live performance tool to create effects and performances that aren’t easily replicated in real-time with traditional audio software and effects.

Lo-fi warped sound collages
Phased loops (just like your favorite 20th century minimalist composers!)
Chopped up real-time glitchy beats
Massive glittery ambience
Granular textures
Harmonic and rhythmic effects that transform input sounds into music

Audiobus and Inter-App Audio support (filter/effect port)
AudioShare support for importing custom samples
Control each modular component’s parameters in real time
Jump functionality lets you easily set cues and sync object positions and speeds
Fine grained or musical interval-based speed control
BPM control to match audio input tempo
Perform any task with a few taps, without needing any gestures/long presses.
No additional hardware or apps required, create new sounds using internal or imported samples
Info function to share and learn information about custom patches.

note: full patch editing and save functionality require in-app purchase

What's the point of making it free?

Doesn't do anything unless you upgrade, so just charge up front instead up wasting pls time. Looks like a cool idea though, so kudos on that

Amazing debut!

I admit, this is one of those gushing reviews from someone who's only spent about an hour with a new app, and I haven't even plunked down the cash for the full version (yet!). But even after a short time using Waverails to process live acoustic guitar mic'd with my iPad, I can tell this is a serious tool for creative expression with virtually limitless potential. It might seem intimidating at first glance, but it only took me a few minutes of fiddling around to figure out how to manipulate my streaming audio in all sorts of interesting ways.

You can pitch incoming audio up or down in fixed intervals or in free increments, and there are all kinds of options for mixing the processed audio with the original source. It's one of those apps where you just play some sound into it and sit back to marvel at all the weird, beautiful tones it can generate. The free presets also demonstrate how it can be used to create all sorts of effects, including delay, chorus, and phase shift.

It's great that this already works with Audiobus too. I patched it into AUM, then ran it through AUFX: Space and Effectrix for some incredible results. It would be useful if the app supported MIDI Sync or Ableton Link, and I kept wishing I could adjust the app's bpm without having to stop the incoming audio, but even after my brief first encounter I can testify, it works beautifully out of the gate.

Audiobus compatibility issue.

Interesting concept but it will not work with my Audiobus. App will not populate in audiobus menu. Will not consider buying the in-app upgrade without this functionality.
