Men's Health Magazine, 27/01/2020:

"Work Stress Could Be Killing Your Gains. Is work, not working out, the cause of gym burnout?

In addition to insufficient sleep, a poor diet, and alcohol, the mental strain of work blocks testosterone production and grinds your recovery to a halt. In a University of Texas study, chilled-out students were able to improve their leg press after 72 hours of recovery, but those living with chronic stress became weaker over the same period.

Keeping tabs on both mental and physical toll is crucial. The solution is heart-rate variability training. You can measure how well you’ve recovered from your last session. High variability signals that you’re ready to push, low variability means a day of stretching and high-nutrient food.

If you want to make your training plan stick, track heart rate variability at home with Welltory. Best for beginners, the free version uses your phone’s camera to measure your HRV. The data is easy to read, giving scores for mood, energy, and stress. You won’t miss a beat."

The American Heart Association recommends HRV assessment for ambulatory ECG, EKG or cardiogram interpretation.

Northamptonshire Chamber, UK:

"Welltory, a startup, provides an overview of your lifestyle and aims to bring meaning to all of that data you are collecting but not really using. Welltory will take it and add it to the rich tapestry of who you are and what activities sap your energy and which ones restore you."

Welltory is free to download and use. With the upgrade to Welltory Pro, there are two auto-renewing subscriptions:

$12.99 per month
$79.99 per year (only $6.67 a month)

– Subscription automatically renews unless auto-renew is turned off at least 24-hours before the end of the current period
– Account will be charged for renewal within 24-hours prior to the end of the current period, and identify the cost
– Subscriptions may be managed by the user and auto-renewal may be turned off in the user's Account Settings after purchase

“Sci-Fi” Update

I am an occasional user of this app. I was previously a subscriber who used it everyday - sometimes multiple times per day. That will not be happening again with the newest update. It is no longer user friendly. I have no idea where to find anything and there are no explanations as to what each button means. The app keeps bragging that I should be able to use my Apple Watch to take measurements - that’s not working. I read the “help” section on how to connect my watch to the app and all it advises is to connect Apple Health. That’s done. But still no luck. I turned on the “Breathe” feature and did that a couple times yesterday, and none of that information has been loaded into this app. The raw data is really the only thing I looked at on this app previously, and now all of that is gone...or impossible to find. The reason I am even bothering to write a review is because I received 15 notifications from this app between 2AM and 7AM last night. That is totally ridiculous! The notifications were the same three messages repeated five times. Truly annoying! I went into the app to change my notification settings and, of course, that couldn’t be found. I think I am ready to delete this app completely even though I have data for almost 400 measurements saved.

Hi! We apologize that you have to wait for your results to be processed, but we rolled out the new version only a day ago, and our servers are under a great load at the moment. We can assure you it's a temporary issue, and we're working on it right now.
We understand that with the new design, it may be hard at first to find the options you’ve got used to — but they are still there. All the raw data is displayed when you tap chart and liquid messages. At the same time, we are happy to offer new solutions by means of new features and integrations with new gadgets. The algorithms have been improved and include new functions now, completely new blood pressure analytics, breathing exercises, workout, sleep, and meditation reports.
You’ve pointed out some issues with Apple Watch synchronization.
Apple Watch is a great tool to make HRV measurements and synchronize data with Welltory to build unique correlations. It is true it is a feature packed device which needs certain adjustments. Please write to chat so that we could help to adjust night notifications.
We really hope that you will enjoy all the new features after you customize and use them for some time. We hope you’ll give the new version a chance and use the data you've already accumulated to the fullest!

My new favorite thing

This app may is my new favorite thing in my life. I live with a rare chronic autoimmune condition and stress/inflammation are serious concerns for me. Recently learned about HRV and have tried various things to start to manage & track it, including the expensive Whoop strap and Oura ring. Neither of them is as good as Welltory. The comprehensive data they give you is unparalleled, the sync access to other apps is flawless and comprehensive, and I love the clear, cheeky summaries and lessons they built in—it’s clear the team working here is thoughtful, dialed in and fun. It’s weird but I feel like I love them—I’m that grateful. Ok, one small request now for whenever you have time, I would love to be able to click on an individual metric from the measurement data page (like moda, rmsdd, etc) and see the history of that measure alone, maybe scrolling to see them alongside the other individual measures’ history. I am just so fascinated by this level of insight into my body’s systems, and learning even more about what lifestyle changes are helping me improve. Thank you so much!

Developer Response ,

Hi there! Wow, thank you so much for such a detailed positive review, we appreciate it a lot! It is interesting you've tried Whoop strap and Oura ring, they are good and both have intergations with Welltory. We are happy to offer more useful functions in the 'My Data' section, such as correlations with your moving activities, sleep, training, etc. So happy to be helpful for your health, keep it up!
As for changes in individual metrics (moda, rmssd, etc.), if you go to the 'Heart' section in 'My Data', you'll see nice informative graphs about them: you can choose to monitor changes by Day, Week, or Month.
UPD: Recently, we've added a new 'move plan' feature which takes into account your daily routine and suggests a plan of activities personally for you.

Is this a joke?

I’m not sure the recent update and redesign is intended to be taken seriously. Certainly a considerable effort was expended in making the app — which already had usability and reliability and accuracy problems —completely unusable and unreliable. Now taking a measurement involves the steps: click tiny icon, get taken to settings (why?), exit settings (I guess), enter endless loop looking for measurement device, exit process, confirm that you want to really exit the process, end up on "cancelled measurement" screen, retry (actually, at last actually try) taking measurement. But that’s not even the worst of it. Feedback and design are so poor throughout that it’s hard to know what’s happened and what hasn't (tags are now ruined). And if that weren’t enough the whole thing is now inhabited by embarrassingly bad and out of place cartoons of tiny people lounging on giant iPhones or wandering around what a appears to be a dystopia made of information screens; screens that appear to be meant to be in the app, but are impossible to discover. But the worst is that despite the effort that clearly went into making this disaster so complete, Welltory has not repaired its buggy and misleading algorithms (repeated promises to do so notwithstanding).

Fortunately there are much better and less expensive alternatives. Use one of those and dump this.

Developer Response ,

Hello Tinathir! We checked your account and seems like you have not the right settings for your measurements. Please try pushing the red button to start measurements, and then switch to "Measure in default mode". Right now you have it on Bluetooth heart rate monitor, that's why it does not work. Please let us know if you need any help with it or anything else in the Welltory in app chat or by email
You are right, the tags function looks different now — you do not have to choose from ‘before’ or ‘after’ options and just tag the activity any time.
Thank you for sharing you detailed feedback about the design.
We realize the new interface, functions and the new design concept is always an ambiguous project, we also have lots of discussions and various opinions among our team members about new solutions and choices. We agree that huge changes in functions take time to get used to them and take advantage of them. Our beta-testers often pay attention to this as well, but later they start using new functions with pleasure.
Sometimes we have mixed feelings as well, but the development of any innovation and its moving forward is only possible by means of contradictory and honest opinions. That is why we really appreciate your feedback and detailed description.
