Great start, but needs improvement

I love using WhatsApp on my iPhone and like the idea of being able to use the desktop app as well. The only real gripe I have is that the desktop app does not recognize keyboard text shortcuts, nor does it allow you to type seamlessly in another language. In my case, I use WhatsApp a lot to talk to friends and family in Mexico and Spain—in Spanish. The app does not recognize that I am typing in Spanish and marks all words as mis-spelled and underlines them in red. Further, it does not do any auto-correct or suggested text features. A big request I would have is to incorporate the languages / multi-language abilities that other Mac developers (and Apple) put into their apps. If the app were improved with this upgrade, I would give this app 5 stars!

Forced Update destroyed the app

In typical Mac fashion, Apple forced this update on me. Today, when I went to open my trusty Whatsapp desktop app which has become a part of my daily workflow, instead of showing me my saved messages, my sent media, etc. it only gave me a prompt demanding an update. I tried closing the app and restarting but again, the prompt came and demanded I update. Normally, when an app is working well and I’m not worried about the fixes decscribed on the app store, I skip the update but in this case, because the app would not allow me to not update, I clicked update. It did not even give me an option to first go and save everything. But of course, also in classic modern Mac fashion, once updated, the app has a critical error and closes everytime upon opening. Now, I can’t access it at all. I tried uninstalling the app with an uninstaller and reinstalling but the critical error still persists. Apple really needs to stop hiring programers straight from school with a degree in programming but no experience. These machines and the software on them used to be dependable. Now, it is a constant race for the next pointless update or the next radical unnecessary feature. So, again, another app bites the dust due to a frantic scramble for a premature next edition. Oh well. Thanks for nothing guys. Please start checking your work before you leap to the forced updates. Some of us prefer realiablility and productivity to the latest trend.

Very solid desktop client

This app integrates surprisingly well with the mobile app, considering that WhatsApp is end-to-end encrypted. Despite fetching all messages from the phone, it has no lag and seems always reliable in making sure that the message is delivery correctly, even under poor network conditions.

Unlike the WeChat client, the WhatsApp client is even able to load history, in spite of the fact that it is coming from one's own phone rather than a company server. It's also able to send stickers. The user interface is a very consistent experience with the mobile app, and I find it much easier to use than any other client.
