Whering:Digital Closet Stylist 4+

This is a great free app for tracking your daily outfits, the cost per wear of your clothes, and new outfit ideas you have. I especially like the outfit randomizer feature, as I have gotten several new outfit ideas because of it. There are just a few things I wish Whering had/did that I feel like other closet apps do better. First and foremost, I really wish it automatically displayed your garments by category. The default shows them in the order that you uploaded them, but that’s pretty useless. You can choose to filter to only one category (ex: tops) but it’s not the default. And when you’re in “outfit creator” mode, unless I’m mistaken, there’s no way to filter by garment type? Adding a feature like that would make a huge difference. Also, every time you upload a new item the app automatically tries to assign tags to the item, but sometimes it ends up assigning nonsensical tags that I just end up deleting. A little annoying, but not a huge deal. My one other main critique is that I don’t like the appearance of the OOTD calendar. The daily outfits are hard to see because they put the date right on top of them! There are some other closet apps that have much cleaner-looking calendars and I wish Whering would follow suit. Other than that, the app is good and I’ll probably continue to use it as it’s the best completely free closet app I’ve discovered so far.

FYI, you can filter to different item categories when creating an outfit, tap the categories shown at the top to narrow it down, or search for specific items. I love creating new outfits with this app and I like the stats that are provided. I wish you could sort the items by the number of outfits they are a part of. So I can see what I need to try to style more. It would be nice to be able to tag an outfit with a season etc when you create originally. Right now all I see is favorite, share, edit, add to look book/calendar. You have to go back to it to add tags etc.

The automatic colors are often random and very different from the actual color. This is easy to fix but would be nice if it got it right from the start. I often want to remove the tags that were auto added too, but when I hit X they actually duplicate instead of deleting. There is also a weird bug where if I try to create multiple outfits from the styling tab of an item back to back it will not automatically add the item. Or it will but it's invisible and unworkable. Under the wardrobe stats, the types are broken down in detail - it would be nice to see broad categories as well (tops, bottoms, footwear).

I really like the wishlist feature - I can try to style things with what I have to see if they work before actually buying them. The calendar feature is cool. Overall great app! I would just like to see some bug fixes and minor feature improvements.

Whering: is mostly glitch free, has a pretty good auto background remover, makes collaging and putting together outfits a breeze, has a good database of brands already (though typing to search sometimes doesn’t work), has an okay database of generic clothing items (but only things & cuts that are currently super trendy), has a sustainability focus with used item listings featured, allows you to tag items as used or not, stats available but hard to find & can’t sort by

Save Your Wardrobe: has a good item field for fabric content AND to record care/washing instructions, includes Good On You sustainability ratings for brands (though database is v limited), crashes sadly often and has glitches in size options, has no background remover, pre-populated database lacking most brands, produces great and easy-to-access data on brands in your wardrobe, wardrobe footprint, and percentage worn, has a sustainability focus with featured blogs etc. Could y’all please just compare notes? Join forces??? Whering works better but doesn’t give me some of the cool data I want from SYW. SYW has image and database and UI issues but really great data and closest metrics. Y’all both have sustainability focus. Please???
